Grand Blanc Parade - More info to come. Habit #1 Be Proactive You are the one in charge! I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes & moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions attitudes, and whether (we do allow others to influence us). I do right things without being asked, even when no one is looking. Habit 1 is the key to all of the other habits. We all make choices every day. Different choices lead to different results. Take time to think about the results of choices before deciding what to do. All of these decisions can be focused on taking care of yourself, taking care of your things, reacting or not reacting to others’ behaviors, planning ahead, and thinking about what the right thing to do is. Maybe you as a family can discuss ways to be Proactive together in your home.

Note from the Cafeteria: We are wanting to let parents know that the 30 day grace period for the reduced and free forms from last year will be ending on Friday Oct. 14th. Please make sure your 2016 / 17 applications are turned in for this school year if you have been using the grace period. As a reminder new applications can be submitted as needed throughout the school year. Just a reminder it could take up to 2 weeks for the application to be approved, so please make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

Thank you

How can you tell if you are proactive or reactive? Take a look at the below statements and see If you can tell if the person is being reactive or proactive 

Someone cuts off a driver in traffic and they decide to drive closely behind the person.

The boss is in a bad mood, but the employee doesn’t let it affect them.

A child is not getting ready for school timely so the parent yells at the child to get them to move faster.

A dinner date is planned, one of the dinner companions doesn't show up at the restaurant, so the other one leaves a nasty message.

How did your family do? Did everyone know that statement 1,3&4 are reactive and not proactive? What would be proactive responses to these statements? Did you come up with any of the following: Statement #1 

Let the person go by and continue driving normally. Perhaps this was a doctor on their way to the hospital for an emergency.

Statement # 3 

The parent should ask the child what is the matter and see if the child needs assistance with something.

Statement # 4 

The person at the restaurant calls the dinner companion and leaves a message asking if everything is alright.

Going Underground: Exploring science: There’s a whole world of activity just under the grass that your youngster can explore. Let him or her turn a shovelful of dirt over to see what it uncovers, such as: 

Earthworms:

Worms help to break down leaves and other material, and they move nutrients and minerals around for healthy soil. Can your child find one and identify its head and tail? (Hint: worms normally move head first.) 

Roots:

Ask him or her to point to roots in the dirt and follow them to their source. A long single root might be a dandelion, branching roots may be clover, and strong roots could belong to a tree.

Grand Blanc Community Schools is super excited about our 2016-2017 attendance awareness initiative. We have formed a Pro-Active Attendance Committee (PAAC) in an effort to support families with students who are chronically absent from school. Did you know students are considered chronically absent if they miss 10% of the school year? That is only two days a month! A parent attendance workshop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 18th, at West Middle School; families will be invited to attend based on their child’s attendance. Please let us know if you need assistance getting your child to school; we are happy to partner with you! #School Everyday.
