Blake Elementary Becomes an Official Ohio WILD School Site itat improvement projects accomplished on the school grounds. The wildlife habitat improvement projects that occur at a school site provide valuable, educational experiences. The goal of the school garden at Blake is to engage students in active learning. The children are learning that plants and animals need food, water, shelter and space to grow. They are also learning about composting.
On Tuesday, October 14, H.G. Blake Elementary was presented with the Ohio WILD School Site Award from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. The Ohio Division of Wildlife’s WILD School Site Certificate is awarded to schools in recognition of the efforts of teachers, students and the school community to benefit wildlife through hab-

They, along with Vanessa Stygles, Blake secretary, were key coordinators of the project, successfully writing the application to become an official Ohio WILD School Site. Students in grades one to five are encouraged to participate in the school garden, one of the many leadership teams students can be involved in at H.G. Blake.

Sean Gordon, Senior, finished sixth place in Student Congress. Medina junior Kayleigh Sevinsky, Lincoln-Douglas debater, also

A student who wins four such bids pre-qualifies to states without having to compete in the district tournament at the end of January. She has masterminded traffic flow, testing schedules, picture day, report cards, Kiwanis shopping and even Formshare procedures. There is truly nothing that Mary can’t take on and systematize to make better. These past few years, Mary has volunteered her time to organize family events at Garfield, such as Scarecrow Night, Family Expo Night and Ornament Painting Night. She not only organizes these special events, but is also present to help out. During her time in Medina, Mary has worked at both Ella Canavan Elementary School
and Garfield Elementary School. She is respected as a leader among the district secretaries and frequently trains newly hired office staff. “Truth be told, many administrators also call Mary directly because she has usually already figured out what most are just starting to contemplate. She has a knack of figuring out what you need done even before you know you need it! She makes everything better and easier,” explained McGinty. Medina City Schools has been fortunate to have Mary serve faithfully for over 17 years. She is a treasured part of our school family, a consummate professional and a model employee!
