Naviance: An Introduction for Families Naviance is a web-based college and career-planning tool that will be used by the guidance department to help student think about and plan for life after high school. It is also the tool that teachers and guidance counselors use to submit documents during the college process. Web Access Students and guests can access Naviance by clicking on the link on the Guidance or high school websites or by entering https://connection.naviance.com/watertownma in your browser. Student Accounts Students are currently given accounts during their sophomore year. Passwords can be reset using the “Forgot Password” option or by visiting Guidance. Guest Account Guests can access Naviance by visiting the link above and selecting the “I’m a guest” option. The password is Raiders. Student specific information is not available in the guest account. Navigating Naviance Once logged in, students will have the option of selecting one of four tabs. The Careers section is one of the first that students are introduced to. Here, students will: • Take the Career Interest Profiler which will generate a list of potential careers, fields of study, and majors that students may be interested in • Explore a variety of aspects of the career, find colleges that offer a particular major, and save careers and colleges to their own personal list. The About Me section has quite a bit of useful information and tools for students. They can: • Create a resume using the Resume Builder • Access a list of their test scores, and keep track of a list of tasks they may need to fulfill before they graduate. • Take the Do What You Are personality test that suggests careers and career clusters that might be of interest to the student • Take the Learning Style Inventory that helps students understand their learning style and learning strategies and suggests possible fields of study. The Colleges section is one of the most well-known and frequently used parts of Naviance. It is here that students will: • Search for colleges (SuperMatch College Search) • Add colleges to their list (Colleges I’m Thinking About) • Connect their account with their college applications so teachers and counselors can submit individual documents. • Have access to a list of Scholarships that are available through Guidance. My Planner is new to WHS, so we are just beginning to use this tool. However, it is a great way for students to create to-do lists, set goals, and keep track of important tasks assigned to them by the school (community service hours, for example).
