Principal’s Report Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Ni Hao, Nei Ho, Selamat, Konnichiwa & greetings. Welcome back to another school term. I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable break. Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday we are having our parent – teacher interviews. We want to meet with all parents and caregivers to discuss the progress that your children have made so far this year, discuss their next steps of learning and undertake some goal setting. Parents and caregivers can make interview bookings online, phone the school, or visit the School Office. We invite parents and caregivers to come along to our school assemblies. It would be great to see more members of our school community there. We will give you plenty of notice of upcoming assemblies. Staff were amazed at the large audience that attended our Wearable Arts Shows at the end of last term. Carisbrook Assemblies are run by our students and involve a variety of items shared by classes, they involve celebrating success with some students receiving certificates for progress and achievement, and the singing of songs. Our first day of the term was a cold wintry day with flurries of snow and sleet. A reminder to parents that if Carisbrook School was to close due to snow or ice a notice would be placed on the radio cancellation services. A notice would also be placed on the front page of our school website. Later this year (hopefully not too much later) a new phone system will be installed within our school that would enable a cancellation notice there too. If Carisbrook School was to close for snow during the school day, the procedure is that all students remain at school until we have made contact with parents and caregivers. Younger students need to be collected by parents or caregivers. Older students may be permitted to walk home independently. This is dependent on a number of conditions including, severity of the weather, distance they are required to walk. DCC and Carisbrook School are working together to create a Pick up and Drop off area at the school entrance along with a map promoting ‘safe meet spots’ for parents to meet children after school. We want to make it safer and more pleasant for our students at school-commute times and your ideas will help us decide what meets the school’s needs. More information on page 3. Ben Sincock Principal
