We have just had the pleasure of hosting visitors from the Canterbury Bulldogs Rugby League team visit our school and speak with our students. The Canterbury Bulldogs are playing against the Warriors tomorrow night at Stadium. We had Bulldogs player Chase Stanley, ex-Australian player Terry Lamb and several other management staff from the Bulldogs here. Terry has played many games for Australia and Chase has also represented the NZ Kiwis. Chase and Terry spoke to the students about healthy lifestyles and the importance of eating healthy food. They answered many questions from the students about their career, highlights, influences on them and interests. The students enjoyed having the special guests on site and several of the students got to shoot some basketball hoops with Chase. The ODT and Channel Nine were here to interview Bulldogs player Chase. The ODT took some photos of our Carisbrook Rugby League Team with Bulldogs player Chase Stanley. They hope to have this photo in tomorrow mornings Otago Daily Times. Channel 9 plan to screen their interview of Chase along with footage from the assembly in tonight’s local news section. Ruma Pohutakawa is currently at school camp near Middlemarch and are enjoying the fantastic weather up there. They are having a great time doing activities such as swimming, biking, team building exercises and cooking for themselves.
Resilient Responsible Respectful
Last Sunday was a miserable cold day in Dunedin for the annual ‘Stadium to Surf’ fun run. I was impressed with how many of our Singapore Cultural Exchange group and other members of our school community braved the atrocious conditions to run. Congratulations to you all. Students Tyson Ross and Joel Wilden had great races in the 3km event, both coming in in the top ten place getters and staff members Kellie Taylor and Mel Huddy also performed very well. We hope that parents and caregivers can attend the upcoming student, parent, teacher interviews that are scheduled for Monday 3rd April. Where possible we have the students play a lead role in this process, talking about their work habits, their goals and their achievements. Regards Ben Sincock Principal

Head lice
Head lice is doing the rounds again. Please check your child’s hair daily and treat when necessary. We need all families to be vigilant with the prevention and treatment of head lice. Treatment is not just a one off shampoo, it takes continuous checking, combing and follow up shampooing. Treatment must be repeated 7-10 days after the first treatment. This is to kill any head lice that may have hatched after the first treatment. There are many helpful websites that have great ideas to help prevent and treat head lice. To reduce the chance of you or your child contracting a case of head lice, start by not sharing items that touch the head. Though it may be tempting to share personal belongings (especially for kids), doing so can lead to the spread of head lice. Avoid sharing: combs and brushes scarves and coats
hair clips and accessories towels
hats and bike helmets headsets and earbuds
As a preventative have you tried putting tea tree oil in your shampoo or spraying it in the hair each day? Some studies suggest that head lice do not like tea tree oil and will avoid it. If your child has long hair wearing it tied up, perhaps in a plait, may help.
