17 Nov 2015 (Mon)  Results of appeal will be posted online and outside the General Office.    Please refer to the letter issued to your child/ward earlier for more details of the Streaming Exercise.    (2) CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES    i. Feast Day Mass (Mon, 28 Dec)    Holy Innocents’ Primary School and Holy Innocents’ High School will be jointly celebrating the Feast  of the Holy Innocents on 28 December, Monday. Rev Fr Frederick Quek will be celebrating mass at  HIHS  School  Hall  at  8.30  am.  All  Catholic  students  are  expected  to  attend  the  mass,  and  other  students and parents are welcome to join in.    ii. Peer Support Leaders' Camp    We  will  conduct  a  peer  support  leaders’  camp  from  18  to  20  November.  This  camp  will  equip  students with service and leadership skills and values so that they can be positive peer influencers.  Our  peer  support  leaders  will  also  learn  facilitation  skills  such  as  debriefing  through  small  group  discussions,  as  well  as  life  skills  in  first  aid  and  orienteering.  This  camp  will  also  prepare  them  for  their involvement in the 2016 level camps.

(3) SCHOOL EVENTS    i. Holy Innocents' High School Open House (7 Nov, Sat)     As  part  of  our  efforts  to  share  our  school's  programmes  and  activities  with  prospective  Secondary  One students and their parents, we will have our Open House on 7 November 2015, Saturday from  9am to 1pm. The Open House will include displays and exhibits from various departments, as well as  performances  and  demonstrations  from  our  CCA  groups.  We  would  like  to  extend  an  invitation  to  you to join us and learn more about our school's programmes, as well as to support your child/ward  if they are involved in the Open House. We look forward to seeing you on that day.    (4) PARTNERSHIPS    i. Tana River Life Foundation Project in Kenya, Africa    Our school has been supporting a community in Kenya through the Tana River Life Foundation (TRLF)  for more than 10 years. They are in need of items for resale to raise funds to pay for the education  needs of children, or for use by the children themselves. You can find out more about the project at  http://tanariverlife.wordpress.com/.                As you go about your year‐end spring cleaning, do consider supporting TRLF by donating used items.  Donated items should be in good resale condition. Items could include clothing, shoes, bags, story  books and dictionaries. All sizes are welcomed and preference is for non‐white items (see Annex A).      Students may bring items to school from 1 December and deposit them in the large red box in front  of the General Office. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support towards this project.    ii. Education and Career Guidance Matters    The school will be giving more attention to Education and Career Guidance (ECG) matters in 2016, as  part of our Character and Citizenship Education classes. For a start, we will like to invite parents who  are interested to speak to groups of students about their careers in one or two sessions to indicate  your interest. Parents who are interested  can send an email to  [email protected] with the subject  title ‘ECG and Career Talks’.    (5) ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS       i. MOE Financial Assistance Scheme    Application  for  MOE  Financial  Assistance  Scheme  is  now  open.  Students  who  are  currently  on  the  scheme can collect a set of forms from the General Office. For processing to be in time for the start  of next year, please submit the application by 9 November, Monday.    The school will be incorporating the HIHS Pocket Money Fund and other forms of aid into a school‐ based financial assistance scheme. The application form and details will be provided in November.    ii. Travel Declaration and Health Matters    Students who will be travelling would need to complete the Travel Declaration Form online through  our  school  website,  Facebook  page  or  via  hardcopy  to  the  General  Office  before  the  end  of  the  school term, for travels during the November/December break. If you have a change in travel plan or

have not completed the form, please do so. Your child will submit the form to his/her Form Teachers  at the start of the next year, together with his/her Report Book (duly signed).     (6) RETURN TO SCHOOL IN JANUARY 2016    Please note that school commences on 4 January 2016 (Mon), which is Week 1 of Term 1. Students  are to assemble at the School Parade Square by 7.30 am.     i. Attire and Grooming    Students  are  expected  to  come  to  school  with  acceptable  hairstyles.  Hair  must  not  be  tinted,  coloured or highlighted. Boys need to keep their hair short and neat, clean shaven with no facial hair.  Girls should tie, pin or clip their hair neatly. Name tags should be securely attached above the left  pocket of the shirts or blouses. Skirts should be knee‐length and long pants should not be tapered.   With  effect  from  2016,  only  white  school  shoes  and  socks  are  to  be  worn  in  order  to  maintain  a  uniform decorum. Sports shoes are allowed but they must be white‐based. For details on attire and  grooming, please refer to our school website. We will encourage you to check on your child’s/ward’s  attire and grooming before the start of school year.    ii. Temperature‐taking Exercise    As part of our continued preparedness, we will be conducting a temperature‐taking exercise in Week  1  of  the  new  school  year.  Please  ensure  that  your  child/ward  brings  a  working  oral  digital  thermometer (ODT) to school every day during the first week of Term 1.    iii. Briefings for Parents and Students in 2016     A briefing for parents of Sec 3 to 5 students will be held on 15 January 2016 (Friday), from 8.00 pm  to  9.00  pm.  This  briefing  will  touch  on  the  academic  and  non‐academic  programmes  for  upper  secondary levels, and how the Sec 3 and 4 results can affect your child’s/ward’s chances in various  admission exercises to different post‐secondary education institutions. Please do set aside the date  in your calendar to attend the briefing.              Mr Yap Wai Meng  Principal       Cyberwellness Parenting Tip #6    If you are worried that your child may develop game addiction, help your child to seek alternatives  to gaming. Since youths get a sense of gratification from mastering computer games, they can look  for recreational activities (e.g. basketball and cycling) that give them the same level of gratification.
