We look forward to seeing you on that day. (4) PARTNERSHIPS i. Tana River Life Foundation Project in Kenya, Africa Our school has been supporting a community in Kenya through the Tana River Life Foundation (TRLF) for more than 10 years. They are in need of items for resale to raise funds to pay for the education needs of children, or for use by the children themselves. You can find out more about the project at http://tanariverlife.wordpress.com/. As you go about your year‐end spring cleaning, do consider supporting TRLF by donating used items. Donated items should be in good resale condition. Items could include clothing, shoes, bags, story books and dictionaries. All sizes are welcomed and preference is for non‐white items (see Annex A). Students may bring items to school from 1 December and deposit them in the large red box in front of the General Office. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support towards this project. ii. Education and Career Guidance Matters The school will be giving more attention to Education and Career Guidance (ECG) matters in 2016, as part of our Character and Citizenship Education classes. For a start, we will like to invite parents who are interested to speak to groups of students about their careers in one or two sessions to indicate your interest. Parents who are interested can send an email to
[email protected] with the subject title ‘ECG and Career Talks’. (5) ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS i. MOE Financial Assistance Scheme Application for MOE Financial Assistance Scheme is now open. have not completed the form, please do so. Your child will submit the form to his/her Form Teachers at the start of the next year, together with his/her Report Book (duly signed). (6) RETURN TO SCHOOL IN JANUARY 2016 Please note that school commences on 4 January 2016 (Mon), which is Week 1 of Term 1. Students are to assemble at the School Parade Square by 7.30 am. i. Attire and Grooming Students are expected to come to school with acceptable hairstyles. Hair must not be tinted, coloured or highlighted. Boys need to keep their hair short and neat, clean shaven with no facial hair. Girls should tie, pin or clip their hair neatly. Name tags should be securely attached above the left pocket of the shirts or blouses. Skirts should be knee‐length and long pants should not be tapered. With effect from 2016, only white school shoes and socks are to be worn in order to maintain a uniform decorum. Sports shoes are allowed but they must be white‐based. For details on attire and grooming, please refer to our school website. We will encourage you to check on your child’s/ward’s attire and grooming before the start of school year. ii. Temperature‐taking Exercise As part of our continued preparedness, we will be conducting a temperature‐taking exercise in Week 1 of the new school year. Please ensure that your child/ward brings a working oral digital thermometer (ODT) to school every day during the first week of Term 1. iii. Briefings for Parents and Students in 2016 A briefing for parents of Sec 3 to 5 students will be held on 15 January 2016 (Friday), from 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm. This briefing will touch on the academic and non‐academic programmes for upper secondary levels, and how the Sec 3 and 4 results can affect your child’s/ward’s chances in various admission exercises to different post‐secondary education institutions. Please do set aside the date in your calendar to attend the briefing. Mr Yap Wai Meng Principal Cyberwellness Parenting Tip #6 If you are worried that your child may develop game addiction, help your child to seek alternatives to gaming. Since youths get a sense of gratification from mastering computer games, they can look for recreational activities (e.g. basketball and cycling) that give them the same level of gratification.
