HOLY INNOCENTS’ HIGH SCHOOL A Community with Courage to Lead, Compassion to Serve 3 September 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian of Secondary 3 Students INFORMATION ON SCHOOL PROGRAMMES IN TERM 4 FOR SEC 3 (05C/2015) With Term 3 coming to a close and a week-long vacation ahead, we hope your child/ward will enjoy the one-week break and use it in a constructive manner, to rest, spend time with friends and family, and to revise his/her work. We thank you for your support in your child/ward’s education. Here is our calendar of events for the rest of the school year. (1) ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES i. GCE ‘O’ Level (June) Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Results We congratulate our Sec 4E/5N students on their performance in the GCE ‘O’ Level (June) MTL Examinations. The Sec 4E students achieved 96.3% passes and 27.6% distinctions for Chinese Language, while the Sec 5N students achieved 15.7% distinctions and 84.3% passes. The Sec 4E Malay Language students achieved 100% passes and 60% distinctions. The students and teachers have worked very hard to achieve these outcomes, and I believe our students can scale greater heights if they will to put in their best effort for the rest of the examinations. ii. CCA Stand-down (14 Sep – 12 Oct) The school will suspend all CCA activities from Monday, 14 Sep to allow our students to focus on their preparation for the End-of-Year Examinations. CCAs will resume from Tuesday, 13 Oct. iii. End-of-Year Examinations (25, 28 Sep, 2–9 Oct) The End-of-Year Examinations will be conducted on 25 Sep (English Language), 28 Sep (Mother Tongue Languages) and from 2 to 9 Oct (all other subjects). The examinations time-table and information are attached for your reference, and uploaded onto the school website for your reference. As the Sec 4 and 5 Graduation Ceremony will be held on 1 Oct evening, please note that students will report at 8.30 am on 2 Oct. The exams will start at 9.00 am on 2 Oct. All students must attend the morning flag-raising ceremony during the period of the examinations. They will be dismissed after their last paper for the day, and do not need to come to school on days that they do not have a paper. Absence from school on examination days must be supported by a valid medical certificate (MC). Your support in supervising his/her revision and motivating him/her to work hard to excel in the coming examinations will help him/her stay focused on achieving his/her targets. iv. Marking Day (12 Oct), Results Processing Day (19 Oct) and Last Day of School (23 Oct) To allow for the processing of results, there will be 2 days when students do not have to report to school. These fall on Monday, 12 Oct (Marking Day) and Friday, 19 Oct (Results Processing Day Day). Please note that the last day of school for Sec 1 to 3 classes will be Friday, 23 Oct.

v. Year-end Bridging Programme for Sec 3E (26 Oct – 3 Nov) To help our Sec 3E students with the 2016 GCE ‘O’ Levels, we will conduct the Year-end Bridging Programme to prepare them ahead of next year’s national examinations. Teachers will be conducting lessons that cover the curriculum content for Sec 4E. The time-table will be distributed to students 1 week before the commencement of the programme. Please ensure that your child/ward attends the programme. (2) CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES i. Monthly Mass (Fri, 18 Sep) and Thanksgiving Mass (Thu, 1 Oct) We will be celebrating Monthly Mass in the School Chapel on Friday, 18 Sep at 7.30 am, and Thanksgiving Mass in the School Hall on Thursday, 1 Oct at 7.30 am. All Catholic students are required to attend the monthly mass as part of their spirituality education, while the whole school will join in the celebration of Thanksgiving. Parents/guardians are cordially invited to join us in our mass celebrations. ii. Elective Modules for Sec 3NA and Sec 3NT (16 – 22 Oct) To broaden the learning experiences of our Sec 3NA and Sec 3NT students, we will conduct elective modules as part of the Post-Examinations Enrichment Programme from 16 to 22 Oct. These modules will offer students opportunities to be exposed to an applied area of study, and help them consider possible post-secondary and career options. Students will report to school for morning flag-raising in school uniform at the usual reporting time on these days. More details will be given in due course. iii. Sec 1 to 3 Level Games (20 – 22 Oct) As part of the school's efforts to promote healthy lifestyle, sportsmanship and team work, the PE Department will be organising level games for our Sec 1 to 3 students during the post-examination period. Students should bring their PE attire and have their breakfast before the level games. iv. Feast Day Mass (Mon, 28 Dec) Holy Innocents’ Primary School and Holy Innocents’ High School will be jointly celebrating the Feast of the Holy Innocents’ on Monday, 28 Dec. Rev Fr Frederick Quek will be celebrating mass at HIHS School Hall at 8.30 am. All Catholic students are expected to attend the mass, and other students and parents are welcome to join in. (3) PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS i. Release of Result Slips and Sec 1 to 3 Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) The school term will close on Friday, 23 Oct. We will issue result slips to the Sec 3 on Thursday, 22 Oct. Selected students will receive the invitation for their parents to attend the PTM with Form Teachers to discuss their academic progress on Friday, 23 Oct.

(4) ADMINSTRATIVE MATTERS i. Return to School in Term 4 When your child/ward returns to school, we seek your support in ensuring that he/she comes in proper attire (including socks, name tags, etc.) and with appropriate hair style and colour. If your child’s/ward’s attire and grooming is not in line with the school’s rules and regulations, your child/ward may be sent home to make the necessary corrections before returning to classes. ii. Travel Declaration and Health Matters We would like to seek your continual cooperation in Term 4 in monitoring the health of your child/ward and do not let them attend school when they are unwell. During the 1-week break, students may decide to travel overseas with their families. Students who have travelled overseas must submit their travel declaration forms online through our school website, Facebook page or via hardcopy to the General Office by Monday, 14 Sep. Thank you.
