HOLY INNOCENTS’ HIGH SCHOOL A Community with Courage to Lead, Compassion to Serve 11 March 2016 Dear Parents/Guardian of Sec 3 Students, INFORMATION ON SCHOOL PROGRAMMES FOR SEC 3 (2C/2016) We trust that your child/ward had a good start to the year, connecting with his/her peers and teachers, and setting challenging targets for himself/herself. We would like to keep you informed of the various programmes and activities lined up for your child/ward this term, and have also included key programmes for the mid-year school holiday periods for your information. (1)

2015 GCE ‘O’ LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS

2016 began with good news at the academic front. The 2015 graduates achieved good results in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations. 95.6% of our Sec 4 Express students obtained at least 5 ‘O’ level passes, with almost all students eligible for progression to a polytechnic, and close to 70% eligible for JC. Over 63% of Sec 5N students obtained at least 5 ‘O’ level passes, and close to 80% qualify for a polytechnic. We congratulate our students, and wish them all the best in their educational journey ahead. (2)

2015 GCE ‘N’ LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS

The 2015 NA and NT cohorts also produced commendable results at the GCE ‘N’ Level examinations. 89% of Sec 4NA students are eligible for Sec 5N. All our NT students are eligible for progression to ITE. 9 Sec 4NA students succeeded in getting into the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP), while 20 Sec 4NA students were admitted to the ITE Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP). We congratulate our students, and wish them all the best in their educational journey ahead. (3) i.

SCHOOL EVENTS Road Run – 24 Mar (Thu)

We will have our annual Road Run at Punggol Waterfront Park on 24 March from 7.30am to 11am. Students will report directly to the park (Field beside carpark at Sentul Cresent Road) at 7:30am sharp in their PE attire for attendance taking. Students should have adequate rest and hydration before the Road Run. If your child/ward is not feeling well, please advise him/her to see a doctor instead of coming for the Run. We will also conduct a check on the students’ well-being before starting the Run. In the event of inclement weather, an announcement will be posted online on our school Facebook page by 7 am. The school will also inform all our students via the class networks and SMS to inform them about the cancellation of the Road Run. Students will be allowed to stay home and need not report to Punggol Waterfront Park or school. ii.

Post-Examination Enrichment Programme (PEEP)

PEEP will be held from 20 May to 27 May for Sec 1, 2, 3, 4NT and 4NA students. Centred on the theme, “The HI Good Samaritan – Kindness Begins with Me”, students will be immersed in a series of activities and programmes that aim to develop them to be servant leaders who demonstrate compassion and kindness towards those around them.

Student-initiated Values In Action Projects Community and Youth Leadership Sharing by Punggol CC YEC Cyberwellness Student Advocacy Programme including a sharing by IPOS “Courtesy as Commuters” Exhibition and Recess Programme by SBS Transit “Kindness - Pass it On” Activity “Keep HI Clean” Environmental Campaign Intergenerational Outreach Programme in collaboration with Fei Yue Community Service Sports Elective Programme

Elective Modules for Sec 3N(A) and Sec 3N(T) (May and Oct)

To broaden the learning experiences of our Sec 3N(A) and Sec 3N(T) students, Elective Modules will be conducted as part of PEEP in May and October. These modules will offer students opportunities to learn an applied area of study, and further understand possible post-secondary and career options in future. Students will report to school for morning flag-raising in school uniform at the usual reporting time on these days. More details will be given in due course. (4)

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

i.

Schemes of Work for Academic Subjects

The Schemes of Work (SOW) for all subjects and levels for Semester 1 have been uploaded onto our school website. You can follow the schedule of topics and work with your child/ward for the semester. ii.

Mid-Year Examinations – 4 (Wed) to 13 May (Fri)

The school will be holding its Mid-Year Examinations from 4 (Wed) to 13 May (Fri). Please see the attached Mid-Year Examination Timetable for more information. We seek your support in ensuring that your child/ward is well-prepared for the examinations. Absence from any examination must be covered by a valid MC. If your child/ward is absent for any paper without a valid MC, he/she will be awarded zero marks for that paper. Please refer to page 17 of the Student Handbook for the list of Examination Rules and Regulations. Do also look into ways to help your child/ward manage his/her stress in preparing for the examinations. The school’s Marking Day falls on 16 May. Students do not need to report to school on this day. The school will return the examination scripts to students from 17 May. iii.

Mother Tongue Languages Oral Examinations (31 May, Tue)

The Mother Tongue Department will be conducting the internal Oral Examination for students on the 31 May. Students will be provided with a schedule, and should report punctually for the examinations. The Secondary 3 Higher Mother Tongue students will be sitting for the SEAB E-Oral Practice Session with the graduating students on one of the afternoons from 25 April (Mon) to 27 April (Wed). Students will be provided with a schedule, and should report punctually for the practice session which also serves as their internal Oral Examination.

Award Presentation Ceremony (Fri, 8 Apr)

The school will be celebrating our students’ achievements at the Award Presentation Ceremony on 8 April, Friday. We will be giving both academic and co-curricular awards to outstanding students and Long Service Awards to staff. iii.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) Stand Down – 25 Apr (Mon) to 16 May (Mon)

To provide sufficient time for our students to prepare for the Mid-Year Examinations, CCA activities will be suspended for all Sec 1 to 3 students from 25 April. CCAs will resume on 16 May. iv.

Sexuality Education

The school is conducting a series of lessons on sexuality education during CCE periods. The schedule is appended below for your reference: UNIT

PARTNERSHIPS

i.

Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) (Fri, 27 May)

The school will hold the second of our termly PTMs on Friday, 27 May. Selected students and their parents will be invited to attend the PTM. At the PTM, you can discuss with our teachers about your child’s/ward’s progress. If you are invited to attend this meeting but are unavailable, we suggest you make a separate appointment with the form teacher, at a mutually agreed time.

ii.

School Notification and Attendance App

We have subscribed to a service called the School Notification and Attendance App (SNAAPP), which allows us to inform you of your child’s/ward’s absence. The app also allows us to send notifications to parents. It is available on both iOS and Android platforms (search for ‘SNAAPP’). We strongly encourage parents to download this free app if you have not done so, so that you can be kept posted on your child’s/ ward’s daily attendance.

ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION Return to School in Term 2 – 21 Mar (Mon)

When your child/ward returns to school on 21 March, we seek your support in ensuring that he/she comes in proper attire (including socks, name tags, etc.) and with appropriate hair styles and colour. If your child’s/ward’s attire and grooming are not in line with the school rules, your child/ward will be sent home to make the necessary corrections before beginning classes for the term.

ii.

Travel Declaration – by 21 Mar (Mon)

You may have planned for overseas travel during the 1-week break with your child/ward. If so, please have your child/ward submit the travel declaration forms to the General Office by 21 March. The form can be found on our school website. A copy will be posted to the school’s Facebook Page.
