HOLY INNOCENTS’ HIGH SCHOOL A Community with Courage to Lead, Compassion to Serve 13 March 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians, INFORMATION ON SCHOOL PROGRAMMES FOR SEC 4 & 5 (03D/2015) We have come to the end of the first term of the year. It has been a busy term with classes, camps, Sports Carnival, CCAs, academic programmes and enrichment activities. We thank you for your generous support and participation in the briefing sessions, and guidance given to your child to ensure that he/she fully participates and benefit from these programmes. On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank you for all your effort in working with the school for the holistic development of your child. We hope that your child/ward will use the March holidays to rest, spend time with family and revise his/her work. We have various programmes and activities lined up for your child/ward in Term 2, and would like to share with you in this letter. (1) i.
SCHOOL EVENTS Road Run – 2 Apr (Thu)
We will be having our annual Road Run at Punggol Waterway Park on 2 April from 7.30 am to 11 am. Students will report to the park (open field besides carpark at Sentul Cresent Road) at 7.30 am sharp in their PE attire for attendance taking. Students should have adequate rest and hydration before the event. If your child/ward is not feeling well, please advise him/her to see a doctor instead of turning up. We will also conduct a check prior to the start of the Run on the students’ well-being. In the event of cancellation of the Road Run due to inclement weather, an announcement will be posted online on our school Facebook page by 7 am. The school will also inform all our students via SMS to inform them about the cancellation of the Road Run. Students will stay home and need not report to Punggol Waterway Park or school. ii.
Launch of S1ingapore Walks! Trail – 16 Apr (Thu)
In celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday, HIHS collaborated with various primary and secondary schools on a Hougang-Kovan heritage trail – S1ingapore Walks! – last year. The trail will be launched on 16 April in our school. HIHS will be featured as one of the locations in the trail. Parents and members of public will have the opportunity to experience this trail. More details of the trail will be made available subsequently. (2) i.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES Mid-Year Examinations – 4, 5 May (Thu, Fri), 11 May (Mon) to 15 May (Fri)
The school will be holding its Mid-Year Examinations on 4, 5 May, and 11 to 15 May. Please see the attached Mid-Year Examination Timetable for more information. We seek your support in ensuring that your child/ward is well-prepared for the examinations. Absence from any examination must be covered by a valid MC. If your child/ward is absent for any

paper without a valid MC, he/she may be awarded zero marks for that paper. Please refer to page 49 of the Student Handbook for the list of Examination Rules and Regulations. Do also look into ways to help your child/ward manage his/her stress in preparing for the examinations. The school’s Marking Day falls on 18 May. Students do not need to report to school on this day. The school will return the examination scripts to students from 19 May. ii.
Mother Tongue Intensive Revision and Consultation Sessions for Sec 4E/5N – 25 May (Mon) to 29 May (Fri)
In preparation for the GCE ‘O’ Level Mother Tongue Examinations scheduled for 2 June (Tue), the Mother Tongue Department will be holding 1 week of intensive revision and consultation sessions for all Sec 4E and 5N students. Please encourage and support your child’s/ward’s preparation during this period, as a good grade in the Mid-Year GCE ‘O’ Level Mother Tongue Examinations means that your child/ward can focus on the other subjects at the end-of-year ‘O’ Level Examinations. Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) Stand Down – 30 Mar (Mon)
CCAs form an integral part of the school’s character development programme. We thank you for your support in your child’s/ward’s participation in CCA activities. The Sec 4 and 5 students will stand down from their CCAs on 30 March (Mon) to enable them to focus on their ‘O’ and ‘N’ level examinations. Students who are taking part in this year’s Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation will stand down after their participation in Festival. (4) i.
PARTNERSHIPS Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) – 29 May (Fri)
The school will hold the second of our termly PTMs on Friday, 29 May, for selected students. Students do not need to report to school on that day except for those invited to PTM. At the PTM, you can discuss with our teachers about your child’s/ward’s progress. PTM will be from 8 am to 4.30 pm. If you are invited to attend this meeting but are unavailable on this date, we suggest you make a separate appointment with the form teacher, at a mutually agreed time.

ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION Return to School in Term 2 – 23 Mar (Mon)
When your child/ward returns to school on 23 March, we seek your support in ensuring that he/she comes in proper attire (including socks, name tags, etc.) and with appropriate hair styles and colour. If your child’s/ward’s attire and grooming is not in line with the school rules, your child/ward may be sent home to make the necessary corrections before beginning classes for the term. ii.
Travel Declaration – by 23 Mar (Mon)
You may have planned for overseas travel during the 1-week break with your child/ward. If so, please have your child/ward submit the travel declaration forms to the General Office by 23 March 2015. The form can be found on our school website. A copy will be posted to the school’s Facebook Page. iii.
Farewell
We bid farewell to Ms Ng Bee Ling, one of our Vice-Principals, who will be taking up a 6-month professional development course at NIE as part of her professional development. We thank her for her years of contribution to the school, staff and students. iv.
