Principal’s Report: Financially in a good position as we have funds to allocate throughout the year. Thought is to allocate some funds for this year and some for next year. Funds should be spent on the students as it’s the students that raised the funds. Suggestions for the remaining funds include: Sign for front of school Recess bins consisting of skipping ropes, indoor games, balls etc Outdoor learning area including rocks or benches School Club allotment of funds (uniforms, buses to events, tents, volleyball) Another water bottle filling station in the library Winter activities inside to keep the kids active (e.g. dance, drumfit) Possibility of hosting a BBQ at pending open house Projector camera for gymnasium Scooter rack Student Ideas: Basketball net Authors Mini stick nets JungleSport part 2 Science Centre to come to Park Field Trips for the school (springridge farm, zoo, FC, Blue Jay Game, Black Creek, Ripley’s, Science Centre Errol Lee ipads Artists – how to draw Gloves, blockers and ministicks Equipment bin in classroom Outdoor chalkboard Due to ongoing labour negotiations the door will not be locked to the school. The cameras are still operational and if the secretary sees someone enter the doors they will intercept them and have them sign in. Staff are instructed that if they see anyone in the hallways without a visitor badge that individual will be instructed to sign in at the office. Also, secretaries cannot handle money or use the intercom system or assist with newsletters. Toni is busy patrolling the halls so your patience is appreciated if you need to sign out your child. In school cross country meet will be held on October 16 and school Terry Tox run will be held on October 27. On October 30 will be Halloween costume day or children can wear orange and black. There will be a parade around the blacktop at 9:30. This information will be noted in the Panda Express. Picture day is Monday October 19. Ontario Green will be held on October 27 which features a number of presentations during the day about the environment and is free of charge. Parents that have indicated that they would like to volunteer in the classroom are invited to an open house/tutorial

about how to assist children with reading/literacy. Anyone is welcome so spread the word about this. Fundraising Plan: If ETFO negotiations are settled within a couple of weeks, suggestion is to go ahead with BigBox fundraiser at the open house and hand out boxes. An open house will be a priority once there is a settlement. There is now a permit for May 27 Fun Day. We can go ahead with a silent online auction with a disclaimer to put online with the items. HDSB policy listed on the website allows offsite fundraising. Thanks to Kimberlee who found this information on the website! Rick Bettencourt has obtained waivers from Home Hardware for signature of parents with children riding on the Santa Claus parade float. Not much is needed to prepare the float; maybe benches, hay etc. Saley will discuss with Rick additional items that may be needed.

Treasurer’s Report: School year beginning bank balance: $29,701.85 There is a surplus of $11,528.43 which is still pending how it will be spent, as well as whether it has to be spent this school year. Field trip funds will be held onto until ETFO negotiations have been settled and an agreement has been reached.

Santa Claus Parade: Rick has made arrangements for the truck and will drive. Cecelia will donate $50 worth of items and Stacy will donate her generator for the day. Saley Bechard will take the lead to collect the forms from the families that are interested in participating in the parade. Those families will be contacted by Saley to let them know what time to be at the school. Saley will coordinate with Rick to figure out what else is needed for the float as Home Hardware generously offered to donate $50 for float decorations. Heather Bell motioned to donate $50 to the Lions Club as we have in previous years. Kimberlee seconded this.

Fundraising Plan for 2015-16: Kimberlee will work with Sandi to get a letter for donations. She will start to canvass businesses and start with 10 baskets totaling approximately $100 each. As soon as she gets donations she will post online. Thought is to maybe also even have some baskets at the Christmas sing along for parents to bid on for Christmas. BigBox of cards: Pass out the BigBox of cards sample kit at the pending open house and then the parents that aren’t interested can opt out of the fundraiser at this time. Hope to go forward with the fundraiser when there is a settlement. Dance a thon: Possibility around Halloween but pending based on ETFO negotiations. If there is a settlement later thought is to work with Rick for a Dance a thon in the winter/spring. If we could have a dance a thon in the fall thought is to send out envelopes with no expectation on donation amount. Wendy and Toni will talk with Rick about coordinating this when teacher sanctions are lifted.

Remaining Funds to be allocated: School Council narrowed down their list for funds to be allocated. These include: Allocate some funds for older kid games at Fun Day (e.g. rock wall, jousting, etc) Outdoor learning area including rocks or benches – continue to think about this as work would be done in spring Projector camera for gymnasium Outdoor Equipment bin in each classroom (ex. Kindies) capped at a set amount. There are 8 classrooms. Artists in classroom – how to draw characters, cartoons, etc. Winter activities inside to keep the kids active (e.g. dance, drumfit)

Fun Day: Shannon Spooner has volunteered to be the Team Lead for Fun Day. Thanks Shannon! There have been volunteers for other different aspects of Fun Day which is great. Wendy will continue to keep us posted on the response from the Fun Day volunteers. Inflatables were booked just before Christmas last year so this can be deferred to next meeting. Food (e.g. Food truck, catering, ice cream truck) to be discussed at future meetings.

Additional Items: Kindie Science Program: Instead of having science in the classroom kindergarten classrooms hoping to have Animal Science in the classroom. Something different for the kindergarten children – council approves this instead of science in the classroom. Pro Grant: Park received a pro grant but details to be confirmed next meeting with Amanda. Meeting night will continue to be Tuesdays.

Minutes recorded by Saley Bechard Next Meeting Date – Tuesday November 3, 2015 at 6:30pm at Park Public School
