NEWLY ELECTED STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS HOLD FIRST WORKING LUNCH Congratulations to the 2017-2018 student council members who were recently elected by their peers. SAFETY ALERT
Morning car riders should not be dropped off in the main bus loop from 8:15 to 9:00. All car riders should be dropped off in the parent loop to avoid any accidents.
COMBATTING BULLYING Beginning the week of November 6, homeroom teachers will be conducting class meetings to teach students about ways to stand up to bullying. As part of the Olweus program, which is designed to help reduce bullying incidents and create a safe learning environment for students, teachers will provide lessons focused on topics related bullying. Class meetings will give students an opportunity to share thoughts and discuss ideas to build a positive classroom and school culture.
REPORT CARDS The intermediate level will be reporting quarterly academic progress via the parent portal in PowerSchool. Directions for accessing quarter one report cards are on located on the NSIS website. An email will be sent on November 8, to notify parents to view their child’s grades online. SOCKS FOR LOVE CHARITY DRIVE
QUIZ BOWL WINNERS Cali Dagen, Alexa Sybert, and Anna Chambers won first place at the Heinz History Center's History Bowl on October 25. The team of three competed against 32 other teams in their division and earned points by completing writing challenges based on different exhibits in the museum. October 25. Girl Scout Troop #52556, comprised of several NSIS students, is involving the student body in a service learning project (Socks for Love) to help gather necessities for homeless shelters in Washington and Allegheny counties. Kudos to these young ladies for getting involved in such a worth cause.
Students in Mr. Zimmerman’s, Mrs. Erbrecht’s, and Mrs. Fiscus’ classrooms work together to solve clues to ’breakout’ of the Spyder Heist! NSIS is using Breakout Edu activities to put students in collaborative situations that require critical thinking!
