Hundt ~ Wednesday, November 1st, is the Great Harvest Time Feast Day of All Saints. During the course of the year we remember many of the great men and women of our 2000 year history, but the work of God, joined with human effort to live according to God’s good and wise laws, has fashioned vast numbers of people worthy of eternal life with God in heaven. Heaven is the dwelling place of saints and so November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation on which all Catholics must attend Mass. To deliberately miss Mass on this day is a mortal sin. Mass of anticipation at St. Peters on 10/31/17 at 8 PM; Mass here on 11/1/17 at 6:30 PM & St. Peters at 8:00 PM. Thursday, November 2nd, is All Souls Day. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that “Death puts an end to human life as the time open to either accepting or rejecting the divine gifts manifested in Christ.” The Holy Souls are those “who die in God’s grace and friendship” but who are “still imperfectly purified”…After death they undergo purification so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. Part of the joy of belonging to the church is the privilege of helping the Holy Souls to enter heaven. The church commends prayers, almsgiving, and works of penance undertaken in behalf of the dead. During this month remember to pray daily for the souls in purgatory. Mass on 11/2/2017 here at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM at St. Peters.
