Zillmer Shelter Completed! Almost a hundred people gathered on Saturday, December 3, at the newly completed Zillmer Shelter for its grand opening and dedication. Roger Clark, Friends of the Kettle Moraine president, welcomed everyone, and then Bill Millonig, Friends Board Member and long-time friend of Mike Krueger, gave an inspirational memorial of Mike to whom the building was dedicated. Jerry Leiterman, Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit Superintendent, provided an overview of the building process and all the people who were involved in the construction including family members and friends of Mike Krueger, many community businesses, and the talented Forest staff. The cost of building materials was covered through donations from many generous contributors. You need to check out this gorgeous new addition to the Northern Unit! The shelter is located at the Zillmer Trailhead off of Hwy SS near New Prospect. During the winter months, it will serve as a heated shelter for cross-country skiers. In the warm weather seasons, people can reserve it through the Forest Headquarters for special events or use it on a first come, first served basis.
