Federationinvites the kind attentionof Railway Board to the abovecited references. In this connection, Federation re-iterates below the duties and responsibilities which per-se necessitate revision of designationof Train Guard in Railways:o o ' o o
Train.Guard has to man the trains (Freight, Passenger,Mail/Express) and also come into contact with the public quite frequently for various purposes, The multifarious duties performed by the Guard of a train involve safe and punctual running besides ensuringsafetyof the travelling public while boarding, detrainingand moving in the running trains, Safeand timely carriageof parcelsto the destinationstations, To issue certificatesto the passengerswheneverrequired.
Though the Railway Board has appreciatedthe key role being played by the Train Guard who perform multifarious duties and recognizedthe faciihat the Train Guard is over all inchargeof the train, but however Board is reluctantto revise the designation.The presentdesignationof Train Guard is not matching with the role played'by them in the presentenvironment.In our country there are security guardsetc., in private institutions which situation is factoring and eroding the dignity and clout of Train Guard in Railways. Revision of designationas suggestedby NFIR does not result any addltional financial expenditure, on the other hand the Train Guard's morale will get boostedand public perceptionabout the inchargeof train would be more positive. NFIR, therefore,requeststhe Railway Board to reconsiderthe matter for revising the designationof Train Guard to "Train Captain" or "Train Manager". Yours faithfull
