Romans—Part 26

February 25/26, 2017 Romans 5:1-2 FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE

First Effect of Justification: We have peace with God 1) 5:1 Even while living in a world of strife, it is possible to be at peace. 2) 5:1 Many of our blessings are future—perfect body, glorification, eternal life, crowns, reunion with other believers—but peace with God is established the moment we place our trust Jesus. 3) 5:1 When Paul spoke of peace with God, he was not referring to a feeling, but to a fact. 4) 5:1 To be at peace with God means we have a relationship in which all hostility caused by sin has been removed. 5) 5:1 Peace with God leads to the peace of God. 6) 5:1 God’s peace is also the joy of living in harmony with God, which allows us to live in harmony with other people and with ourselves. Second Effect of Justification: We have access to the Father 7) 5:2 The rendering of “access” is inadequate because it leaves out the fact that we do not come in our own strength but need an “introducer,” which is Jesus Christ. The stress is on Christ’s activity, not ours. 8) 5:2 Jesus’ death forever removed the barrier to God’s holy presence (Matthew 27:51). Because of Him, we find ourselves with access to a relationship that we could never get in any other way. Third Effect of Justification: We stand secure for Eternity 9) 5:2 If the Savior’s death brings us to God’s grace, a living Savior can keep us in His grace.

Fourth Effect of Justification: We have reason to celebrate 10) 5:2 It is not the prospect of what might happen but the reality of what is already guaranteed that leads us to rejoice. 11) 5:2 The Christian has no reason to fear the future and every reason to celebrate it because we have the secure hope that our ultimate destiny is to share in the very glory of God (Romans 8:30). Our Salvation is: anchored in the past because Christ made peace with God possible for all those who trust in Him. anchored in the present by Christ’s continual intercession (Hebrews 7:25). anchored in the future because God gives the unchangeable promise that one day we will be clothed in His glory. GREEK WORDS Prosagōgē (pros-ag-ogue-ay')—admission :- access; Used only 3 times in New Testament of a believer’s access to God through Jesus Histēmi (his'-tay-mee)—to stand :- abide, continue, establish, hold up Kauchaomai (kow-khah'-om-ahee)—to vaunt :- (make) boast, glory, joy, rejoice
