Romans—Part 48

October 7/8, 2017 Romans 8:5-8

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) God expects those whom He has caused to become eternally righteous, those who truly belong to Him, will walk in righteousness while on earth. 2) Believers do not behave according to the flesh because our new hearts are no longer ruled by sin. 3) According to God, there are actually only two kinds of people: those who do belong to Him and those who do not. 4) What is it that defines you? Only you and God know… (Philippians 2:5; Colossians 3:2). 5) Emphasis in v5-8 is on the state in which every unbeliever already exists. Even while the body and mind may be very much alive, they are spiritually dead. 6) Unless the Holy Spirit intervenes, thereby enabling us to respond to God, an unsaved person is as insensitive to the things of God as a corpse is to the voice of the living. 7) Every unsaved person, whether outwardly moral or outwardly wicked, is hostile toward God. An unsaved person cannot live a righteous life because they have no righteous nature. Therefore, they cannot have genuine love for God or for the things of God (1 Corinthians 2:14). 8) It clearly follows that if the mind of the unsaved person cannot subject itself to God, then those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9) Sinful flesh can only reproduce more sinful flesh. Only God’s Holy Spirit can produce spiritual life. 10) It is God’s great desire that you live out the perfect righteousness He transferred to you, that you truly walk like His child (1 Thessalonians 4:3a).
