Romans—Part 53b

November 25/26, 2017 Romans 8:23

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Jesus came not only to forgive us, but also to restore us, making all things new. 2) There is privilege in knowing our destiny. There is privilege in knowing God’s Word well enough to understand there is something much better than what we now see, leaving us with an expectant longing. 3) If you are in Christ Jesus, spiritually you are ready; it is your body that is yet to be redeemed. The inner person/eternal portion is already a new creation, indwelt by God’s Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17). 4) Because things are broken, there must be a physical change to your body before you obtain your inheritance. 5) As a child of God and an heir, you will inherit 1) God; 2) a new creation, 3) a glorified resurrection body. 6) The Bible gives bits of detail regarding your resurrected, glorified body (1 Corinthians 15; Daniel 12; Matthew 13). In short, your resurrected body will be powerful, perfect, and eternal. 7) Just as an earthly body is built for life on this planet, a future body must be built for your eternal dwelling (Philippians 3:21; 1 Corinthians 15:53) 8) Our decaying bodies are described with the word “dishonor” (1 Corinthians 15:43) because we now bear the results of sin. 9) In the same way God, through Jesus, can forgive you of your sins, He will raise you up with new glorious bodies, being completely free from the effect of sin (Luke 5:23; Philippians 3:20-21). 10) Free from the restrictions of sin, your new body will be perfectly built for your new environment. 11) You personally will be clothed with glory and immortality; your body will be conformed to Christ’s glorious body to the degree that you will “shine forth as the sun” (Matthew 13:43). Our suffering is minor; our glory is limitless. Our suffering is short; our glory is forever.
