About Amnesty Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people campaigning to protect human rights. We have a vision of a world in which every person enjoys all of the rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. When those human rights are violated, we search out the facts, expose what is happening and mobilise people to put pressure on governments and others to stop the violations.
About the ACT/SNSW Action Centre & Region Our action centre supports Amnesty volunteering across all of the ACT and parts of regional NSW. Our volunteer activists are currently participating in major national human rights campaigns to reduce Indigenous youth incarceration, legislate for marriage equality, defend refugees and asylum seeker human rights, and increase our overall yearly refugee intake. We also support International campaigns to free prisoners of conscience around the world, and defend the human rights of many minority groups who are unfairly discriminated against. Our volunteers in the ACT are working with thousands of volunteers across the country and the world to achieve change. In Australia, are all working together to achieve the Amnesty 2020 vision. About the role This role will act as office support for rural and regional NSW groups working in conjunction with the Community Organiser and the Activist Support Co-ordinator This dynamic role will be responsible for:
Responding to enquiries from rural and regional groups for campaign materials and posting materials out Promoting group events via groups social media platforms in conjunction with the overall regional social media strategy; including researching and trailing social media monitoring services; looking at ways of engaging with supporters online; working with other volunteers to promote Amnesty International activist group events; ongoing evaluation of the social media posts Responding to any questions and comments Training other volunteers on using social media Maintaining group convenors details lists and updating our Nation Builder database Checking and forwarding emails to relevant staff/volunteers Mail – Addressing and posting mail, purchasing new mail items on account as requested Data Entry - varies week to week Regular contact lists updates Assisting with specific research or data projects Creating specific event posters and newsletters Printing up and organising materials for groups and stalls
Knowledge, skills and experience required (selection criteria) Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility An ability to learn new tasks quickly A willingness to plan ahead, set goals, and make a commitment to your volunteering Ability and enthusiasm to work in a team environment A passion for supporting human rights An ability to learn and quickly adapt to new IT software and programs Effective writing and communication skills
