Name The name of the club shall be Shirley Tennis Club.

Membership Membership shall be open to all persons over the age of 16, or according to ability, of under 16, who are approved by the Committee.

Management The Club shall be administered by a committee consisting of a Chairman, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Secretary and not more than three other members to be elected at the Annual General Meeting by the total membership. Should vacancies occur in the committee between two Annual General Meetings, the committee may fill such vacancies.

Subscription Each member shall pay the subscription agreed by the members at an Annual General Meeting. For the Summer Season, any member whose subscription is unpaid on 1st June shall cease to play until his or her subscription is paid. Notice of resignation from the Club must be received by the Honorary Secretary on or before 15th May in any year, otherwise the member will be liable for the Summer subscription for that year.

Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting shall be held in the month of November. Fourteen days notice shall be given to each member.

General Meetings The Honorary Secretary must, at the request of the Committee or on receipt of a request signed by fifteen members, summon a General Meeting to be held within fourteen days of the request from the Committee or the fifteen members. The Committee or the request must state the purpose for which the meeting is to be summoned and seven days notice thereof must be given to members. 25% of the Club membership shall constitute a quorum at General Meetings.

Rules The Rules may be altered or amended at any General Meeting. Notice of any proposed alteration must be given in writing to the Honorary Secretary at least twenty-one days before the meeting.

Conduct Should the conduct of any member be considered by two-thirds of those present and voting at a General Meeting to be detrimental to the interests of the Club, he or she shall cease to be a member. -1-

Visitors Members may introduce visitors to play at the Club on payment of the fees agreed by members at a General Meeting. Payment of the fees shall be made to any member of the Committee and all visitors shall be subject to the Rules of the Club. The names of members introducing visitors must be entered in the book provided for this purpose. A person may not play as a visitor on more than four occasions during a season.

All games should be governed by the Rules of the Lawn Tennis Association. Members should play in white clothes and none shall wear other than rubber footwear. Coloured clothing may be worn if the clothes in question are specifically designed for tennis. Any clothing not so designed, eg socks, must be white and any member selected to represent the Club must wear white clothes. No member shall occupy a court for more than one short set if any other member or members are waiting to play, except when arrangements are made by the Committee to meet special circumstances, eg Tournaments and Matches.

General The Committee shall interpret these Rules and give directions in cases not provided therein.

Trustees 12.1
The Committee elected by the Shirley Tennis Club Holders Association hereinafter called “The Association” shall also be the trustees of the Shirley Tennis Club. For the duration of the Association the Committee of the Association and the Trustees shall be identical and shall be subject to the same rules regarding removal and appointment.
12.2
After the dissolution of the Association the Trustees shall be removed only by the members of the Club at a General Meeting who shall fill any vacancies of Trustees due to death, retirement or removal.
12.3
Upon removal or retirement a Trustee shall execute such deeds and perform such actions as are necessary to enable him to retire from the trust.
12.4
The lease of the tennis courts granted by the Borough of Croydon, fixtures, fittings, furniture and any other assets of the Club shall be vested in the name of the said Trustees.
12.5
The duty of the Trustees shall be to hold or deal with the said lease, fixtures, fittings, furniture and any other assets of the Club in accordance with the rules of the Association for its duration.
Dissolution Upon dissolution of the Club, the assets of the Club shall be dispersed in accordance with the wishes of the members for any approved sporting or charitable purpose.
