YEAR 11 TRIP TO CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY MACMILLAN COFFEE
9 students from Year 11 were thrilled to visit Cambridge University for the day. We got a tour of the University, were served lunch with current students and lecturers and took part in 2 workshops, a debating workshop and an engineering workshop where they had to build a dome out of straws and sellotape! Since this trip, Cambridge University have been into Newall Green High School to run a debating workshop with Year 7 students and some of our Year 11 students have recently been offered places at Cambridge University’s summer school in August – all expenses paid. Look out Cambridge – here we come!

Since September, students and teachers at Newall Green High School have been developing our Growth Mindsets. We have been learning about how the brain adapts to new challenges and how we can all learn new things by sticking at it and being resilient. Students have taken part in workshops and assemblies throughout the year and we are all practising the Growth Mindset maxim, changing “I can’t do it” to “I can’t do it…yet!” We hope that parents and carers received their Growth Mindset leaflets – look out for more information coming soon!
working with Newall Green High School for the past six months. Groups of boys and girls in Years 9 and 10 have been put through their paces by Paul, our ex-British Army instructor. They have had a wonderful time developing their teamwork skills, problem-solving and learning how to maximise their relationships with students and parents alike. Well done to all these students!
