Cathy Orseske, CEOE - Affiliations The following Affiliates have renewed their membership. Champaign County Retired EOP Kankakee Iroquois EOP Macon County AEOP Vermillion County AEOP Waubonsee EOP Martha Carson, - Bylaws The position of Professional Development was reinstated in the Standing Rules in place of the temporary Program Organizer. The current description is as follows: The Professional Development Committee members shall provide in-service opportunities to school districts and affiliated associations throughout the state by means of workshops, seminars, and other types of presentations. Nancy Harrington, - Community Service/ Fellowship At the Fall Conference in Bloomington, we collected $127.60 at the general meeting. The collection was divided between The National Childhood Cancer Foundation and Special Olympics each receiving $63.80. We will do Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Ronald Mc Donald Houses at the spring conferences and at the fall conferences Special Olympics and National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Thinking of you cards were sent to: Doris Baittie and Bea Williams. Sympathy cards sent to: the family of Marie Bill, retired member; the family of Irene Koehler, the BEACON
retired member; the family of Starlene Rudofski, retired member; Helen Vopenka on the loss of her husband. A Sympathy card was sent to James Hall on the loss of his wife Ann Hall, daughter of Catherine Stevenson. I have received somHinformation on a new charity - The Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. It is an organization that helps bring toys to children with cancer. Information will be available at the Board meeting for us to decide to do something for children with cancer. Mitzy Widebeck knows about a service project called the Matthew Project for homeless children in the Springfield area. Information will also be available at conference. Julie Hammers - Educational Administrator of the Year Award The winner of the IAEOP Administrator of the Year is Mr. Erick Baer of Highland CUSD No. 5. Mr. Baer currently serves as a Middle School Principal and is working toward a Doctorate in Education. He was nominated by Dena Henricks. Barbara Hutcherson - Higher Education There were twenty eight (28) packets sent to Colleges/Universities in the surrounding area of Bloomington. I would like discussion regarding the higher education chair position and how information is sent to Colleges and Universities. The conferences do not take place in all areas of the state now and therefore there are many colleges/ universities that do not even receive information. It would be too costly to send out to all Illinois colleges/universities. I would like discussion to include the idea of not sending out information regarding the conferences in the usual manner and exploring ways to send materials out via more updated technology. Also, Directors could give information to their area colleges and universities, which I know some do now. The cost of copying and postage to send out materials is very expensive in regards to the outcome. All suggestions are welcome to provide a better way for this chairmanship to work.

Donna Steckling, - Newsletter Editor It has been 18 years since I was asked by Mary Christofferson, IAEOP President, to take the position of newsletter editor in Fall of 1997. My first year, 600 copies of the Beacon were printed and sent out to the membership. That truly was a project of intense work since at that time, there was no internet and website for the members to get the newsletter. There was a period that volunteers, Thelma Webber and Sherry Johnson, printed off the newsletter and mailed them out after I forwarded the copy to them. What a savings of WLPH that provided. Then in 2007, it was back to me having copies printed and mailed to 400 members. As the years passed, the amount paid for this newsletter gradually went down and by 2011, there were fewer mainly due to the Beacon being available on our website. The Spring Beacon 2015 was mailed to 45 members who either had no computer or access to the website. The IAEOP Presidents I worked with were: Mary Christofferson, Doris Baittie, Thelma Webber, Darlene Lundgren, Jackie Voorhees, Paula Bender, Nancy VanVickle, Dena Henricks, and Ruth Burgess (all served 2 years).. It has been my pleasure to continue producing the Beacon to provide the news regarding members, events, and articles on the workshops to aid all in their professional life.
