Letter from the President After four years of being involved with Booster Shots and the Health Science program, it is finally time for me to “graduate”. I have truly enjoyed the people of Booster Shots and the events and opportunities we can provide for the Health Science students and Health Science program. I have been told that I can come help out whenever I want, so don’t be surprised to see my face lurking around at fee night or at some other event. This year we also say good-bye to some wonderful parents who have been involved with our organization for the entire four years their children were here at Cosby. I want to thank Jennifer Cline, Barbara Flynt, Adrienne Harris, Lisa Stillerman, and Kristi McCollough ten Kate for all they have done for Booster Shots (and it’s been A LOT!) for the past four years. These ladies will be sorely missed on the second Monday night of every month at the meetings, at luncheons, fee nights, concessions, and every other event they attended. They all have some big shoes to fill, but we have fantastic returning parents and some new folks joining our board and committees who will be up to the task. At our May 4 meeting, we elected a new slate of officers (listed to the right on this page) and welcomed some new board members. All parents who are Booster Shots members are welcome to attend any of our meetings, usually held on the second Monday of the month at 7 PM in Room 142 (subject to change – meeting dates are listed on the website). There is always something going on that needs parents to come help! So as we close another year, celebrate all that we have done, and congratulate the Class of 2015, I urge both students and parents to enjoy these moments. They go by way too quickly, so make the most of the moments you have with your children! Liz O’Shea

Scholarship Winners Announced at Senior Banquet on May 8 Congratulations to the Booster Shots Scholarship winners (L to R): Gabrielle Pecoraro, Shelby Goode, and Skyler Zunk. Below: Guest speaker Dr. Katherine Dec.
Three well-deserving seniors received scholarships from the Health Science Booster Shots at the Senior Banquet at Cosby High School on Friday, May 8. Winner of the two $1,000 scholarships was Shelby Goode. Receiving scholarships of $500 each were Gabrielle Pecoraro and Skyler Zunk. After a catered dinner in the commons area of the school, students, parents, faculty, and guests entered the auditorium for the guest speaker and the awards ceremony. All students received Health Science medals to wear at graduation and a small gift from the Booster Shots of a poem and a small box of items to remind them how special they are to their parents and to those of us who remain behind. After a welcome and introduction from Dr. Brenda Mayo, principal of Cosby, the guest speaker was announced. Dr. Katherine Dec, former team doctor for Cosby High School, offered advice for the graduating students and congratulated them on beginning their adventure into the Health Science professions. Liz O’Shea, president of Booster Shots, then called the names of the students as they stepped forward to receive their medals and gifts from Shelly Schuetz, Junior Parent Representative of Booster Shots and organizer of the banquet. To conclude the evening, Ms. Cassie Rogers, coordinator of the Health Science program at Cosby, introduced a slide show of all the outgoing seniors. The students received a copy of the slide show on DVD as an additional gift.

In April, our Health Science Booster Shots and Health Science students worked the concession stand at the Festival of the Arts held a Cosby this year. The weather cooperated by giving us rain all day Saturday and Sunday, which means we sold a lot of food and drink! Thanks to all the parents and students who helped us get through the VERY busy weekend! And helped raise some good money for the Booster Shots to be able to give back to the students and teachers of the Health Science program.

Freshman Orientation and Scheduling Night On April 22, the rising Governor’s Health Science Specialty Center Class of 2019 attended an orientation and scheduling night to help them get ready for their four years at Cosby High School. Booster Shots parent volunteers were on hand to help calm parents’ fears about how their child will ever get through all those classes and achieve the success of past students of the program. After a presentation by the Cosby Counseling Office, parents and students made scheduling choices and changes while Booster Shots board members sold memberships and Health Science spirit wear for next year’s ninth graders.
Congratulations to the Health Science Specialty Center
