August 4, 2017 Dear Buckeye Community, We only have a few weeks left before school will be back in full swing for our students, teachers and staff! I hope you were able to take some time and enjoy the break from school with family and friends. I can assure you that we have been very busy this summer preparing for a successful 201718 school year. I want to thank those staff members who have been working all summer to repair, maintain and improve our facilities. They have been busy and their hard work is noticeable throughout the district. Some of our facility projects included upgrading security cameras, completion of the final phase of the high school HVAC project, phase two of the replacement of high school lockers, painting/sealing the elementary building, paving projects at both the elementary and high school and replacing and repairing the fence at both stadiums. Various rooms in all buildings have been painted and new LED lights have been installed in the elementary cafeteria. After school gets started, we will also be replacing auditorium seats at the high school. Many staff have also been busy this summer preparing for new academic offerings. We are implementing the next phase of our district technology plan, which includes issuing 1:1 Chromebook devices to all students in grades 7 through 10. In collaboration with the Medina County Career Center we have added additional STEAM classes at the junior high and high school. We have increased elective class choices at the junior high and high school, added more Advanced Placement classes at the high school, and have increased our gifted services across the district. We are excited to welcome many new staff this year and we look forward to sharing Buckeye Pride with each of them! All students must have their information updated in Registration Gateway by the start of school. Because this will replace all paper updating processes, we will have computers set up at each school to assist with this process during orientations and curriculum nights. Please see the attached letter with information regarding this important process.
We have made some changes this year to our beginningofyear processes. As there have been changes in law regarding student privacy, class lists will not be posted. Your child’s teacher information will be emailed to updated email addresses on file of those parents who have completed the Registration Gateway update. Also, due to starting school on Monday, August 21, 2017, we are not able to have elementary Open Houses the night before school. I can assure you we will have plenty of adults on hand to assist with getting each child to his or her proper classroom. Finally, I want to invite you to an evening presentation at 6:30 pm on Friday, August 18th at Buckeye High School to learn about “Raising Brilliant, Kind, and Happy Children in the Digital Age.” This is a free program and is designed to help better understand your child. Please see the attached flyer for more information I hope the 201718 school year is a great one for you and your family. I am excited to see what our students can achieve! Go Bucks! Kent J.
