KEVIN O’SHEA, CPA School Business Administrator/ Board Secretary
September 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Residents: My monthly superintendent’s update letter is posted on our district website to keep our parents, guardians, and residents informed about the great things going on at the Central Regional School District. I respectfully seek your input and suggestions to make Central Regional School District a special place. As we begin the 2016-2017 school year with great anticipation for the exciting educational opportunities ahead, I wish to thank you for your loyalty and the sacrifices you make to send your children to Central Regional School District. Our Humanities Academy partnered with Georgian Court University is the only academy in the State of New Jersey where university professors come to a high school to teach class. Students can earn up to 18 college credits through the program and an additional 12 with AP courses to graduate Central Regional with enough college credits to begin as sophomores in most colleges and universities. That is a savings to parents and students from $30,000 to $60,00 and giving the student the ability to obtain their degree in 3 years rather than 4. We currently 100 students, 9th – 12th grades, enrolled in the Humanities Academy, 25 seniors this year. Sixty-seven students have graduated the Academy with 66 starting as sophomores in colleges and universities all over the country. One student attended Columbia University which only accepted 9 credits from the Academy. Currently Central Regional High School is the only school in Ocean County to offer a Social Media Academy and Leadership Academy which will provide students with new academic opportunities. The Social Media Academy will provide for social media internships in New York City after they graduate. Our Leadership Academy, partnered with John Hopkins University and Victory Road, will help to produce tomorrow’s leaders today. In a world where your best choices for President are Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump, we look towards educating our students to become true leaders that could become presidential choices for the future. Students will attend a series of speaking skill sets though Victory Road while meeting leaders in multiple fields including business, medical, military and sports. The students also will acquire leadership skills through our Army JROTC Program. Lastly, I want to recognize the high school Environmental Science AP students that worked with the Army Core Of Engineers last year to design the dunes in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. This year they will be working on cleaning the Barnegat Bay and continue their work with M.A.T.E.S. Program to raise trout for release into the wild. Don’t forget we are a School Choice District so Ocean County students can apply to attend the Central Regional School District tuition-free. Become a Golden Eagle and Soar Higher!
