SUPERINTENDENT, SPECIALIZED PROGRAM SCHOOLS/INSTRUCTION/RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Background Guided by the district’s vision, mission, belief statements and our goals, the superintendent, specialized program schools/instruction/religious education will assist the chief superintendent in fulfilling the general and specific aspects of the role description for the chief superintendent as defined in the School Act and Board policy. Procedures The superintendent, specialized program schools/instruction/religious education is directly responsible and accountable to the chief superintendent, and when assigned, will assume all responsibilities of the chief superintendent in their absence. 1. Overall Accountability The superintendent, specialized program schools/instruction/religious education provides strategic leadership and operational direction and support to schools, administration, teachers and staff and to Instructional Services; including Specialized Program and Religious Education & Family Life. 2. Specific Accountabilities 2.1
Area schools: 2.1.1
Models and supports Calgary Catholic’s inherent principles, promoting a strong academic and spiritual culture in schools.
2.1.2
Participates in the preparation of Calgary Catholic goals, objectives and action plans.
2.1.3
Assists in the staffing process for administrators, teachers and staff.
2.1.4
Assists administrators in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance instructional programs and services.
2.1.5
Mentors, supports, supervises and evaluates principals.
2.1.6
Builds a collaborative relationship with the school community.
2.1.7
Supports professional development for administrators, focusing on Calgary Catholic’s Leadership Quality Standards.
2.1.8
Supports school councils in carrying out their roles and responsibilities.
2.1.9
Develops and nurtures positive relationships with parishes, parents, and other

stakeholders. 2.1.10 Provides related reports to the chief superintendent and the Board of Trustees. 2.2
Instructional Services: 2.2.1
Liaises with the Diocese of Calgary and with the Canadian Catholic Conference of Bishops.
2.2.2
Plans and monitors the budget for all instruction programs; reviews and monitors the content and quality of all programs.
2.2.3
Provides leadership in promoting Catholicity.
2.2.4
Develops, implements and evaluates the supervision of instructional programs including special needs and religious education; promotes excellence in student achievement and instructional methodologies and develops procedures for program and student evaluations.
2.2.5
Supports the development of contracts with external organizations related to mutually beneficial collaborations for instruction, programming and district needs; monitors budget for such programs.
2.2.6
Maintains collaborative working relationships with a broad range of community and public service partnerships.
2.2.7
Provides related reports to the chief superintendent and the Board of Trustees.
