Starting Off Strong! Abby
Why make this newspaper? What kinds of things are there to write about? These are questions that we, the writers, asked ourselves on the first day of writing. The writers of The Prowl are a group of students that worked with Mr. Robert last year and were chosen by the school’s teachers. The teachers were tasked to choose five students from each grade, these students created the Core Values Movie Making WIN Block. In this WIN Block the students wrote and shot their own short films about the four core values.

A few of those students were asked to continue this work in a new WIN Block, thus creating The Prowl’s first set of writers. The writers have been challenged with choosing what to write, we have been given full control of what the paper’s content will be. This means the students choose what they want to write about. The book reviews will be written about books you like, the current events will teach you about the school and community around you. The sports page will keep you up to date on you and your friends sports schedules.
As you continue reading, you will learn about the four core values. These four rules are what we are striving to teach all of our students at TRS. Respect, or honoring the ability and qualities of everyone; responsibility or assuming ownership for oneself; integrity, being honest and doing what is right, even when no one is looking; and grit working through a situation, even when challenging. Through The Prowl we will teach these core values while teaching you about the other fun things in and about our school.

TRS’s Four Core Values
Discovery Area Quinn Our school has no playground, but that’s going to change. Pembroke Academy students have been helping to build an outdoor classroom. In addition, they are growing grass. But, it’s not just the PA students who have been helping out, the janitors have been helping too. They have been laying down rocks and mulch. The volunteers also added a layer of rocks so the kids can play wallball. Another thing they are planning to fix is the basketball court. They are going to fill the in the cracks around it and possibly repaint. They want to add more picnic tables and a small stage for people to play on. They are growing bushes around the school. A big thanks to facilities staff and PA students for helping us build this wonderful playground!
Jake Our four core values are what we are striving to teach all students and staff at Three Rivers School. Respect, honoring the abilities and qualities of everyone. We think it is important because in our school, we respect each other. It is something TRS should strive to be like. Responsibility is assuming ownership for oneself. It is important to be responsible and it leads to success. One example of responsibility is if you knock the teachers papers off her desk you pick them up, because it’s the responsible thing to do. Integrity is being honest even when no one is looking. It is an important core value because you always want to do the right things, even when nobody's watching. Having this core value is important to our school because being honest is the right thing to do. Grit is working through a situation even when challenging. This core value is important to our school because in TRS we want our students to work hard. For example if you have a really hard test and you are stuck on a problem you should work through it.

Because Of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea This book is a children’s literature. I would recommend this book to anybody. This book is about a couple of kids who have a new teacher. Some of the kids think they can get away with anything because the teacher is new, and some of them just want to do the right thing. But as the year goes on the kids start to form a friendship with the help of their new teacher. I would give this book 5 stars because it’s touching and it’s a really good book.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon Everything, Everything is a young adult fiction. It is about a 18 year old girl named Madeline who her whole life she has never been out of her house. Her whole life she has SCID,a disease that makes her allergic to just about everything, so she has never been to school. Then one day when a boy named Olly moves next door everything changes. When Maddie’s nurse, Carla, let’s Maddie and Olly have secret meetings Maddie starts to change. She starts to cancel movie nights with her mom, she almost lets her mom win at a game she has always won. Maddie starts to fall in love. I would give this book 5 stars because it’s a great book and it’s fun to read.

“My friends ignore me. Please help! Thanks!”
Dear 8th Grader, We’re so glad you came to us, but we’re so sad that this is happening to you! A good way to deal with close friends ignoring you, is to simply ask them. If you believe that this person is really meant to be your friend, then you should definitely put in the effort to stay friends with them. A true friend will listen to you and your problems. Based on this you should see if those people are your friends by asking them. You can say things like “Hey are you okay? I feel like we haven’t talked in awhile.” or simply ask them “Are you ignoring me?” This all depends on how comfortable you feel! I hope we helped, if not try going to either Mrs.Reynolds or Peer Mediation. The Core Four, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Grit
