ESE Survey

Award Winners – UCHS

Each year, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) surveys parents of children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to determine how well your child’s school is partnering with you and promoting your involvement in your child’s education. All states must collect this data as a part of their State Performance Plan, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Your feedback is important to helping the state and local school systems continue improving educational programs for children with special needs. Individualized paper surveys will be sent home with students on February 1, 2018. From now until May 31, 2018, parents of children with disabilities receiving exceptional student education services in Pre-K through twelfth grade are encouraged to fill out the survey and return it using the postage-paid envelope that was provided. Parents can also access the survey online at www.esesurvey.com

Military Ball Recap JROTC held its annual military ball February 9. The theme of the ball was World War 1 because 2018 is the 100th commemoration of the war ending. The night started up with the Presentation of the colors (presenting the flag) and the national anthem was sung by Cynthia Parrish. After the colors were presented, the special guests were noticed and Ethan Redmond did a short presentation with information about World War 1. Shortly after, dinner was served. After dinner the colors were retired and the seniors were called to the front of the stage so that LTC Steverson could announce the king and queen. The seniors in the JROTC program were the nominees for king and queen. The king was Justin Pilcher and the queen was Cynthia Parrish. After they were announced the first dance of the night was theirs. After their dance the dance floor opened and everyone danced the rest of the night.

Arrive Alive Mrs. Christie Whitehead, who works in the School Board Office, wrote a Title IV Grant which paid for the Arrive Alive tour to visit UCHS on February 5 and 6. All freshmen and sophomores attended on February 5 and juniors and seniors attended on February 6. The tour consisted of two parts: an informational video about texting and/or drinking while driving and a simulator vehicle. At the simulator vehicle, students could choose whether they wanted to experience texting or drinking while driving. Students that chose not to participate in the simulator could view what the "driver" was experiencing on a 32" monitor. Our district is very fortunate to offer this experience to UCHS

students.
