The TLTC is housed in the new Edward St. John building, an expansive hub for innovative teaching and active learning in the center of campus. In addition to our staff offices and open workspace, we have two dedicated rooms, a 30-seat Training Room and a 60-seat Instructional Development Studio, that we use for workshops, retreats, seminars, and learning community meetings.

POSITION SUMMARY The Teaching and Learning Transformation Center, invites applications for an Assistant Director of our Faculty Programs. Instrumental to TLTC’s mission (tltc.umd.edu/mission) are the programs, events, activities, and resources that support and advance faculty teaching and professional development outcomes. The Assistant Director of Faculty Programs (AD-FP) manages the planning, budgeting, marketing, operations, and evaluation of our various faculty-oriented programs and events and more broadly supports the TLTC’s mission and efforts. The AD-FP represents the Director and Executive Director in their absence and works closely with the Office of Faculty Affairs, and other campus stakeholders to advance the broader strategic mission of the campus and its academic units. The AD-FP reports to the TLTC’s Director of Instructional Excellence & Innovation and is responsible for supervising undergraduate and graduate staff assigned to related projects and programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Only candidates who clearly possess all of the following can be considered for this position: • A Ph.D. or other terminal doctoral degree from an accredited academic institution. • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as the instructor of undergraduate or graduate courses at an accredited academic institution. • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience working directly with graduate students or faculty to support their course design, evidence-based teaching practices, and learning outcomes assessment. • Expertise with course and curriculum development, education research and theory, pedagogical theories and approaches, scholarship of teaching and learning literature, learning assessment techniques, the effective use of technology to enhance student learning outcomes. • Direct experience with diversity and inclusion initiatives, and working with a diverse staff and student body. • Demonstrated ability to direct programmatic activity and to manage multiple projects and coordinate with a diverse team of professionals to achieve organizational goals. • Experience planning and overseeing events (e.g., workshops, orientations, retreats). • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERENCES The ideal candidate has a distinguished record of excellent teaching at the university level wide range of formats (e.g., course size, blended, online), substantial professional experience managing pedagogy-related programs, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The role requires a commitment to customer service and a personal dedication to increasing the accessibility and inclusivity of higher education. Therefore, preference will be given to applicants who have the following: • Their terminal degree in the field of education or a related field. • Deep knowledge and record of scholarly publications and presentations related to the scholarship of teaching and learning. • Expertise with survey software such as Qualtrics. • Expertise in data analysis tools such as SPSS, R and Tableau. • Expertise in designing, and creating courses in online learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) for a wide range of courses. • Expertise in assisting others with creating professional development materials (e.g., teaching statements, portfolios). • Experience conducting peer observations and providing formative feedback to instructors and teaching assistants. • Proficiency with common instructional technologies utilized on campus (e.g., clickers, Panopto, WebEx). • Experience training, supervising, and supporting employees or graduate assistants.

RETIREMENT PLANNING As a condition of employment at UMD, all faculty and regular exempt staff are required to enroll in either the Optional Retirement Program or the Employee’s Reformed Contributory Pension System.
LEAVE You will earn annual leave at the rate of 22 days per year (6:46 hours per pay period) and sick leave at the rate of 15 days per year (4:37 hours per pay period). You will also be credited with 3 personal days annually.
