List some gains & failures of progressivism. The Rise of Progressivism?  Define progressivism. What produced this stage in US History?  What role did the progressives believe government should take?  What did they feel would help the most in producing solutions for society?  Who were the muckrakers and why were they important?  How did Jacob Riis try to help the urban poor? Reforming Government  How did progressives want to reform government? Give several examples of reforms that progressives supported.  How did progressives hope to solve problems through political reform? Woman Suffrage  Define suffrage. List some prominent females that led the women’s movement.  Where did women first gain the right to vote in the US?  What strategies did women use in their fight for woman suffrage?  Look at the map on p. 359. What trends do you notice about the map.  What year did women finally gain the nationwide right to vote? # The Amendment. Reforming Society  What kinds of problems did these reformers want to solve? How did they go about trying to make these reforms?  Read the “analyzing primary resources” on p. 360. What insight does the description offer about the progressives’ views of child labor & working conditions?  List some specific successes the progressives made in Child Labor.  What steps did progressives take to help workers?  What happened at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company? How did it help the progressive movement?  What is prohibition? Why did people blame the use of alcohol for many of society’s problems?  What did progressives agree on in terms of Big Business? How did the different groups think the problems should be addressed?
