Lochside’s Volunteer List: Popcorn Day – Once a month popcorn is popped and delivered to each classroom for our children to enjoy. We are looking for anyone able to assist with this. Fun Lunch – Once a month our kids get the pleasure of having a fun lunch such as pizza, sushi, wraps, etc…Our volunteers are asked to come to the PAC lunch on these days at 11:15 to help deliver food to the classrooms. Once the kids have finished their lunches, they are asked to bring all the recycling back to the PAC kitchen for clean up. The entire process takes approximately one hour. Grade 5 Yearbook Committee – These grade 5 parents are responsible to put together the yearbook for the grade 5 graduates. This committee should form as soon as possible at the beginning of the year to get things started. Grade 5 Fundraising Committee – These grade 5 parents help keep costs for grade 5’s down such as the Camp Thunderbird by organizing some fundraising events. For example this past year’s committee organized Holiday Magic Magazine shopping and a successful bottle drive. Recycling at Special Events – We all know how important recycling is and it is a huge part of our school. We need help and are looking for people willing to take this on during our special events. Morning Watch – The Morning Watch program is designed to ensure that students that get to school independently (bus or walk) arrive safely. Parents sign their children up for the program. Once the attendance has been completed by the teachers, the Morning Watch volunteer checks the absentee list against the Morning Watch list. If any kids on the list are absent, the volunteer checks with the teacher if they have arrived, and if not, phones the student's home to confirm they are away. The volunteer is usually finished by about 9:15. Volunteers can help out as little as 1 day a month, or as much as 1 day a week. Every shift that is done is helpful in keeping this program running! Halloween Dance Committee – We need a group of parents to help with the planning of our big event that comes up very quickly in October. This year our event will be happening on Thursday, October 20th. If you are interested in party planning and making fun happen, we would love to have you! Holiday Book Sale – Each year our school has a Holiday Book sale where the kids like to donate their used books from home for other kids to buy for a very reduced price as gifts for the loved ones for Christmas. Once bought, our volunteers wrap their books and the kids take them home to put under the tree. The volunteers would organize this event.
Movie Nights – Each school year LEPAC puts on a movie night 2-3 times per year for families to come and enjoy. We are looking for a few people interested in helping with organizing these events. Volunteers would organize the movie, the posters around the school, the food etc. Classroom Reps – Each classroom should have two classroom reps. This would be any parent willing to be a liaison between the classroom teacher or administration and the families and the PAC and the families ensuring everyone is properly informed of important information or upcoming events. This is mainly done through email. It’s a great way to know what’s going on in the classroom and around the school. If you would like to become a classroom rep for your class, please ask your teacher during the first few days of class in September. Food Drive – Each year Lochside does a “Help Fill the House” Food Drive during the beginning of December to help those less fortunate. In doing so, a group of parents build and paint a house out of donated cardboard boxes, requests donations from local grocery stores for paper bags and organizes a food drive through a charity in the community in need. This is a very rewording job and it is amazing to see how much our school gives back to the community. Secret Santa – Last year Lochside started a “Secret Santa” in December where we take care of our own families within the school that need a bit more help during the holiday season. The families remain anonymous, but give the administration a list of their needs and wishes. We then hang those wishes on a Christmas tree for the other families in our school to look at and have to option to wrap buy for. Last year this was so successful that everything was bought quite quickly! The person(s) who wish to volunteer their time for something like this are required to meet with the administration for the wish lists, organize lists for the school to be able to read them and manage the gifts. A very rewarding job! Scholastic Book Fair – The person(s) involved with this is the liaison between the company that brings the books in and the school. They will have to set some dates, organize the volunteers, organize set up and take down. A wonderful gift for the kids! It is always such a success! End of the Year BBQ – This lucky person(s) gets to organize the end of the year bbq fundraiser that the kids and families look forward to each year. Organizing music, entertainment and food! If you or a group of you love to organize parties, this is definitely for you! This is a great community event filled with lots of volunteers to help! Staff Appreciation – Every year at Lochside we spotlight our staff on the amazing job they do for our children. Lochside doesn’t just do one day for staff appreciation – we do a WEEK! If you would like to participate in making their week a memorable one, please volunteer for this! The staff truly appreciate it!!!
