Wildlife Diversity Program Leader – Recruitment (Job title – Fish and Game Coordinator) Alaska Department of Fish and Game - Juneau The Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for the position of Fish and Game Coordinator (working title Wildlife Diversity Program Leader). The position will be housed in the Division's headquarters office in Juneau. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with wildlife education and experience to lead the division’s Wildlife Diversity Program. The incumbent reports to the Wildlife Scientist II (Chief Wildlife Scientist). The position provides primary oversight of the Division's State Wildlife Grants program as administered through the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration (WSFR) programs from the Department of Interior. Budgets are complex and require a match. The incumbent supervises 5 professional staff in Juneau, Anchorage and Fairbanks. The incumbent serves as the department lead for the Nongame Migratory Bird Technical Committee of the Pacific Flyway Council, and will be instrumental in revising Alaska’s Wildlife Action Plan. A key goal of this position is to direct science and conservation approaches for species that have a high conservation need and to help keep species from Endangered Species Act listings. The incumbent must possess skills needed to effectively work with other agencies, NGO’s, and universities to promote program goals. Experience as a wildlife biologist, performing field work studies and population monitoring with a diversity of birds and mammals. Specifically identify work experience with hunted/game species, non-hunted species, endangered species, and wildlife research. Experience with federal funding, primarily work supported through the federal Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration (WSFR) programs. Desired experience with defining project objectives, compliance and financial management. Experience with nongovernmental organizations and industry, especially in the conservation arena. Experience with interagency coordination and making decisions on complex and at times controversial issues. Experience reviewing and editing scientific documents prepared by others. Experience presenting scientific findings, including instances when the study was conducted by others. Experience with professional staff supervision; establishing performance standards, preparing performance evaluations, job mentoring, and hiring processes for vacant positions. Advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and GIS analyses and data applications.

Monthly travel within Alaska required. Out of state travel to various national meetings is required. Salary – the position is a Range 22 in state government and the “A” step is currently $79,200. As Alaska’s capital city, Juneau has 31,000 residents.
