Variations of WORD Tic Tac Toe Read-only version: Prepare game:

Write spelling/sight words in grid spaces. To prepare game pieces, draw an “X” on several post-its and an “O” on several more post-it notes.

How to play:

Opponents first choose to be “X’s” or “O’s.” Each player will choose a word on the game board and read it aloud. If the word is read correctly, player may cover the word with either an “X” or an “O” post-it. The first player to cover three words in a row is the winner! (**smaller post-its work best on the printable game board provided).

Word bank Version: What You Need:

Two writing utensils in different colors, Word Bank

game board(s).

Prepare Game: Print word bank game board, fill in spelling/sight words in the spaces provided.

How to play:

Flash Card Version: Prepare Game:

Either laminate a game board or slide into a dry erase center. You may also need to write words on index cards if you do not have spelling/sight word flash cards.

What you need:

Prepared game board, dry erase markers in two

different colors, word cards

How to play:

Stack word cards face-down in a pile. Each player should then choose a dry erase marker in a different color than his/her opponent. To play, draw a word card, read the word aloud, then hand the card to your opponent. Write the word in a game space while your opponent checks the word card for correct spelling. If the word is not spelled correctly, player must erase the word and place the card at the bottom of the word card pile.
