Mrs Alysha Adams •From New Zealand •3rd year in Taiwan •Completing my Masters degree in 2017 •Taught a variety of ages and in a variety of countries, for a few years •Family is all at TES •Hobbies include, travelling, Cooking and water sports.
Mrs Lize Dawes •EAL Teacher working alongside Alysha Adams and Paul Jenkins •Originally from South Africa. •Previously I lived in the UK, Thailand, China. •PGCE – Specialising in English and Psychology. •This is my fourth year working at TES. •I have two children who attend TES, Cameron in Y8 and Katie in Y2. •I love to travel and spend time with my family.

Miss Lili Chen • Learning Assistant in 5.2/5.1 • Born in the Philippines •At TES since 2003 •Previously worked in Learning Support •Fantastic cook •Loves working with children.
Miss Elaine Tsai •From Taiwan •Working in USA with college students. •Qualified Chinese teacher •Working alongside Paul Jenkins and Alysha Adams. •Loves basketball, swimming and music. •First year at TES.
Routines and Administration • The School Day
Students should ideally arrive at school between 7:45 and 7:55. - The school day ends at 3:00. Please ensure the children are picked upon time. At 3:10 they will be taken to the office. • The School Library - Each class has a scheduled weekly library time, but the students are also free to use the library at any break and take out books during lunch time and after school. • Money - All money for school events and equipment must be paid via the electronic payment system (e.g. Camp Taiwan, Saturday Soccer, ECAs). Small scale fund-raisers, such as free-dress days, are the only exception and can be given to the class teacher. Uniform should be purchased by an adult directly from the uniform shop.
Essential Equipment • PE kit – To wear on PE days • Uniform – including black shoes • Bags - lightweight backpacks recommended rather than bags with wheels.
• Caps, healthy snack & water bottles -
essential every day, especially in hot weather. • Stationery - this is provided.
• Lunch Cards – Issued. To be left in canteen. • Packed lunches – Hot option (Steamer available)
Communication • Home-School Link Diary • Communicate with your child’s teacher - please use the home link diary or via email • Encourage children to show their teacher any messages from home • Reports and Parent –Teacher nights twice per year

Homework and supporting your child • Please remember that the children work hard all day at school: play, socialising and relaxation are very important out of school activities. • “Talk homework” will be on class blogs on Thursday and Homework books on Friday • Maths – Mathletics • Spellings – 3 lists appropriate for your child. Words are issued and tested on Friday. • Reading – 20min per night recorded in the Homelink diary.
Homework and supporting your child • Topic based homework grids – optional. The first one will come out for the Blast Off! Science unit • CLC - The children will have words and characters to practice and should have their CLC book at school everyday. • Parent workshops – run by SLT. Information will be on blogs and in emails.
Class Rep… • Each class will be asking for a parent to act as their class rep. The role involves : • Welcoming – coffee mornings, social get-togethers for parents • Events – arranging and organising class parents for class parties or PTA events • Support – arranging and organising parent helpers for class trips, making costumes for productions etc • Attending meetings • Communication with the class teachers Please speak to your class teacher to volunteer

Topics A topic based approach helps children to make connections. Where possible we will take excursions or have guest speakers related to our topics. The following are the topics studied in Year 5. A Slice of life (PSHE) Blast Off! (Science) Groovy Greeks (History) Matter Matters! (Science) The Active Planet (Geography) May the Force be with you! (Science) These topics will be supported by the integration of other curriculum areas.

All EAL learners are integrated into all subject areas in the mainstream classroom The EAL teacher co-teaches with the classroom teacher to deliver the curriculum with a focus on language
