Archivists Couchette - complex material assemblage

Along the Façade of the Couchette, a series of steamed flexible timber shutters are placed to provide a partially obstructed view to the south facing sun along the façade, whilst keeping a direct view to the street outside. Using steamed bent wood the timber is formed to create a varying shutter which can expand and contract. A tensile steel cable is threaded through each component with fixed washes providing pressure on the timber to contact when the cable is pulled and expand over the window when released.
