Dr Ed Wickins Executive Principal of the ESF Kow loon Learning Campus (King George V School, Kow loon Junior School, Jockey Club Sarah Roe School)

Dear Parents, I hope that you w ere able to enjoy the break w ith your family and that everyone is all set to go as w e embark upon the Year of the Rooster. The New Year w as w elcomed in w ith celebrations and w e end our first w eek back w ith a celebration of our ow n. For a long time now , students have been w orking hard and the Evening of Music and Dance is the culmination of it all – a true celebration of the creativity and dedication of everyone involved. If the snippets of the tech and dress rehearsals that I have seen this w eek are anything to go by, you are in for a splendid show . For the past few years w e have created a moment to pause and consider w hat w e can do to look out for each other. This has now taken a more consistent shape and I am looking forw ard to Kindness Week w hich runs from Monday 13th through to Friday 17th February. The focus this year is on Gratitude, w ith a number of activities taking place in tutor time, as w ell as throughout the w hole w eek itself. Amongst the activities in the w eek I am interested in finding out from a KGV Alumni about the w ork of ImpactHK, a charity w orking w ith homeless people here in Hong Kong. Please talk to your child about their involvement in the w eek. If you w ant to find out more about the science that links gratitude to happiness and w ellbeing then your child should be in a position to tell you as it is something they have been looking at in their LPS lessons. Have a good w eekend.

Challenge Week 2017 All students from Year 7 to 12 will choose a Challenge Week activity between Feb 21st and March 2nd. Please talk with your child to help them make their choices. You should consider the enjoyment, educational outcomes, costs, requirements of the activity and suitability for your child. Students currently in Year 10 choose language immersion options. Please go to the language immersion section of the website and read the information about a subsidy offered to help families with costs. Make sure you have backup choices. We would love to give everyone their first choice of activity, but in many cases they will fill up or may be cancelled due to small numbers. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. Please note that overseas trips require a non-refundable $3000 deposit within a few weeks so we can secure group air tickets. Please impress upon your child that changing their choice later causes problems for us and may not be possible so they should be sure of their choice and know they are making a commitment to that activity. If your child may be leaving KGV after June, then please don't sign up for an overseas activity as we may be unable to refund your costs. If your
