Acceptance of the minutes of the August 6 Meeting a)
4.
Sheila Kucko made the motion, seconded by Halina Hollyway; it was accepted unanimously. New Business
a) Legislative Luncheon: Steve Gregorias stated that there many representatives and senators are not running again – i.e. Senate President Tem Pro Donald Williams, so we expect to see many new faces in the house and the senate. We will have to learn how to work with the new elected officials. Legislative luncheon will be on October 14. We ask many members to turn out. There was a concern of not being able to speak honestly if the university administrators are present at the luncheon. We may try to have some cards at tables for people to submit questions anonymously. There was a question on if we only invite Democrats; Steve responded that we have also invited Republicans attend the luncheon in the past and gave incidences. b) Grievance Report: Elizabeth Sullivan gave an overview of the grievance cases. The number of cases has been fluctuating but has settled down to the average in the last year. c) Contract Role Play: Article 22 and various scenarios were discussed. There was a question on what defines a verbal warning. The supervisor has to clearly state that “this is a verbal warning” and often a written letter of direction would follow. 5.
Old Business a) Temperature: Peter Morenus asked now that the students are back, how are things in your areas. There was a question about how reasonable accommodation is defined and how the policy on Health and Safety is enforced. Elizabeth Sullivan responded that the University’s
Health and Safety policy is incorporated into our contract. Temperature of an office/work area should be warmer than 62 and cooler than 80. However if it were not the case, it has to be an on-going condition and be documented in order to enforce the policy. In addition, more output is demanded on less number of staff, yet more management-exempt positions are getting hired. No results on staffing analysis done at the West Hartford Campus – should be done by January/February 2015. 6.
Adjournment a) David Paquette made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Nancy Urcinas, the meeting adjourned at 12:55 pm.
