Meeting Called to Order by King Lum, Chairperson, at 1:05 pm. Attendees included: King Lum, Karen Tyrell, Mary Ong, Roland Mitchell, Rebecca Clapperton Law (CVC Exec Dir), Bruce Bird, Judith Castillo, Ken Kuhn (TCSPN Coordinator), Pat McBlane (TCSPN Co-chair), Kathie Rodway (SHARE), Bill Lawrie, Elaine de Koning, Ruth Cox, Massi Bajhshian, Christine Spinder (CRN) Regrets: Jeanne Goodrick
2. Adoption of Agenda Moved Karen, Bill 2nd, Carried. That the Agenda be adopted as sent out by Ken. 3. Adoption of TCSPN Minutes (November 15, 2016) Moved Bruce, Pat 2nd, Carried. That the Minutes of November 15, 2016 be adopted. 4. Introduction of Rebecca Clapperton Law—New Interim Executive Director CVC Rebecca told the meeting attendees about her past work history. 5. Old Business a. Ken & Bill showed off the TCSPN Promotional Items—Wall Banner, Roll-Up Banner, and Tablecloth Final costs for Wall Banner ($285) & Roll-Up Banner, ($250) including tax, design & art work was $767.20. Cost for Tablecloth, Set-Up Charge, Freight, Tax was $369.20. Promotional Items Total Cost was $1136.40. Moved Pat, Bruce 2nd, Carried. That we authorize up to $200 to cover the budget for promotional items. [It was budgeted for $1000 so we are over-budget by $136.40 for the above 3 items.]

b. Brochures (250)—Massi Massi will check the pricing of glossy paper and printing to be done of the updated brochure at Selina Robinson’s MLA office. Brochures to be ready for the SUCCESS Seniors Multicultural Day on March 3 rd. c. TCSPN Meetings & Notices—City planners, local newspapers, MLA offices Ken mentioned that he had contacted the various City Hall offices to invite a representative to our meeting (without any positive response). Ken said he did not have an opportunity to put a notice in the Tri-City News about our meeting. d. Response from Hon. Dr. Andrew Weaver, Leader of the BC Green Party, to the Isobel Mackenzie letter of support that we sent. Ken shared the letter response from Dr. Weaver. The meeting attendees commented that they were surprised that the Liberal and NDP parties did not respond. 6. New Business a. Community Response Network (CRN)—Christine Spinder attended the meeting at our request to discuss possibilities for planning of a Joint Event—Forum. Christine gave a brief history of CRN and shared some recent developments and cutbacks with CRN. CRN resources are changing. Christine has been with CRN for 4 years. The BC Assoc. of Community Response Networks (BC CRN) grew out of the need to create an on-going, permanent provincial funding and support structure for the benefit of local CRNs and adults in their communities experiencing abuse, neglect and selfneglect. There are 16 regional mentors across the province and 68 community response networks. BC CRN website http://www.bccrns.ca/ Counsellors to work with whole families—Christine is a trainer. CRN tries to connect agencies to make sure the networks are known. CRN would like to collaborate with us to host a Joint Forum around home care and the long wait times between leaving hospital and getting services in place at home. Event is planned for the first week of June (Seniors Week) and World Elder Abuse Day on June 15th Forum—CRN Coordination staff is laid off. They have cash, facilitation support, elder abuse workshops and materials in the community. It’s Not Right Program training, with leveraging the provincial organization gets $800,000 to $1.2 million per year, provincial Elder Abuse Hot Line

$5000 grant How do we move forward for this Forum in June? Karen—phone call, April from VanCity, Caregiver Forum, Port Moody Inlet Theatre, Willing to work with a Forum for Caregivers, CRN, TCSPN, & VanCity Moved Karen, Judith 2nd, Carried. That we create a CRN Committee (with Christine as our lead) as a subcommittee of TCSPN. Members of committee already: Pat, Karen, Massi, Gina VanCity Community Support Group—Karen to discuss with VanCity—we look forward to work with them in the fall. What do they expect of us? Type of Forum to include: Home Care, access to services, Power of Attorney, Elder abuse, Caregiver Forum?? b. Dementia Focused Committee (DFC)—Karen January is Alzheimer Month Sub-Committee on Dementia?, suggestion Terms of Reference for the Subcommittee Get Karen to send to me terms of reference, New West seniors planning committee has terms of reference. Dementia purple angels, Alzheimer (type of dementia) Moved Karen, Ken 2nd, Carried That we create a Dementia Committee as a sub-committee of TCSPN. Karen said that we can apply for a grant, collaborate with other groups to find out the community needs, (e.g. walking path) c.
January Newsletter—Ken Ken will generate a newsletter and appropriate articles for a February newsletter to be printed and sent out electronically to members with emails. d. i. Volunteers—Judith, Mary CRN to have a table??? ii. Promotional Items—banners, tablecloth, brochures f. Tri-Cities BC Election All-Candidates Forum—Tuesday, April 4, 2017 Centennial School Theatre—Ken, Bruce, Bill, Roland Bill shared some prices on the promotion bags. For our event, $6.20 per bag for 250 attendees or $1550. That expense could come from the remaining CRN monies after the Elder Abuse booklet is printed. Stacey had sent Mary some budget items from Political Forum funding. Roland has written an invitation letter to be sent to each political candidate in the four ridings telling them about the TCSPN Political Forum. Ken will send them out with letterhead and RSVP information. g. Other New Business: i. Grant Applications—Poco Foundation Roland says that all 3 cities have Foundation grants from each city that we can apply for. Ken will gather opportunities for local community application grants. ii. Elder Abuse booklet—Tri-Cities version Christine distributed copies of the “Langley” version. Cost to print 1500 booklets would be $1500; cost for 2500 booklets is $1800. We will make changes to represent our community & with CRN and TCSPN logos. Moved Karen, Mary 2nd, Carried. That 2500 brochures be printed and the remainder of the CRN funds will go to printing bags for the Political Forum. 7.
