License/Certification Required: Valid Wisconsin DPI License, Certification #1801 in Cross-Categorical Special Education is required. Job Description: The School District of Mauston is seeking candidates for a Special Education Teacher at secondary level beginning the 2017-2018 school year. The successful candidate will have the ability to create a positive and structured setting for students emphasizing learning, personal growth, social and emotional development, equitable participation for all kids, and positive peer and staff interactions. The candidate will have knowledge of positive behavior supports, differentiated instruction, secondary reading in the content area, special education law, and the development and implementation of individual education programs, and functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans. Must pass background check and drug screen upon offer of employment. The candidate will be able to: • Plan and prepare high-level, creative learning environments that are engaging, relevant, address student needs and are based on best practices for secondary instruction and students with special education needs • Maintain a safe, respectful classroom environment • Involve parents in the educational setting • Make a positive and substantial contribution to the school and district • Assume a leadership role with colleagues • Work in a truly collaborative professional environment • Show high regard for the learning capacity of all students • Work with other staff in a possible co-teaching environment Secondary education students are served through a combination of inclusion, specialized instruction, and positive behavioral and academic supports. Mauston is located midway between Madison and La Crosse on I90/94 and within minutes of both Castle Rock and Petenwell Lakes area.
