#BeautifulDay 2018 Campbell Veterans Memorial & City Hall Campus Ages 13+ When we asked the city of Campbell how we could serve them, they asked us to help clean up the grounds around their City Hall, including the Campbell Veterans Memorial. For this project, we’ll be installing pavers around the memorial, removing weeds and non-drought tolerant plants and replacing them with droughttolerant landscaping for the campus. HomeFirst Veteran Shelter Ages 18+ HomeFirst operates housing and shelter sites across Santa Clara County. They shelter veterans, homeless families with children, and youth. HomeFirst San Jose also known as The Baccardo Reception Center has a special facility that houses many veterans as well as their canine friends. There will be a lot of paint involved, some light construction, and an opportunity to make a real difference. We need some green thumbs to help with large planter boxes, and some handy-folks to help build some sheds. FULL-Blackwood Terrace Ages 18+ This project includes small home improvement projects around a Sunnyvale townhome, home to a mother and her two foster daughters, who have lived with her for over 11 years. You can expect to learn how to do drywall, painting, window repair, and other “honey-do” tasks along with some light landscaping. Lakewood Park Ages 5+ Located just a half mile away from the WestGate Church Sunnyvale campus, this park is a favorite community destination. We’re going to pick up trash, plant bushes, and spread new mulch. Afterwards, we’ll throw a little party. What’s more neighborly than a backyard BBQ?! This project is perfect for volunteers of all ages— especially those who call WestGate Sunnyvale home.

Manzano Way Ages 18+ This project has multi-faceted benefits, we will not only be serving those who live within the home, but will be addressing a community request to serve this family. This project will include clean-up of debris, along with general landscaping and exterior painting and light repairs FULL-Party for Sunnyvale’s First Responders Ages 13+ One of WestGate Church’s campuses is in Sunnyvale, and we wanted to show some love to that city’s Department of Public Safety, which includes fire, police, and emergency medical responders. During one of their shift changes, we’ll provide a meal, raffle off prizes, and help the first responders know their value to our community. Alpha High School Ages 13+ Alpha High School is a publicly funded charter high school, enrolling students from the east side of San Jose. In addition to standard curriculum, students are trained and developed as leaders. This school attempts to help students find positive ways to avoid the negative influences of the gang-impacted neighborhood. This project was recommended to Beautiful Day by Danny Sanchez of the City Peace Project who is also part of the mayor's gang task force. We’ll be remaking Alpha’s teacher lounge, building picnic tables for seating, painting lines on asphalt, and doing other school improvements and landscape work. Alpha Middle School Ages 5+ Alpha Middle School is a publicly funded charter high school, enrolling students from the east side of San Jose. In addition to standard curriculum, students are trained and developed as leaders. This school attempts to help students find positive ways to avoid the negative influences of the gang-impacted neighborhood. Turrett Drive Ages 18+ This property was identified by the City of San Jose as an “urban blight” which means it exhibits objectively determinable signs of deterioration sufficient to constitute a threat to human health, safety, and public welfare. This project will include clean-up of a large amount of debris, along with general landscaping. We’ll also be replacing the exterior trim of the house, and will paint the exterior of the house (and possibly helping with repair of the roof). We’ll not just be removing an eyesore; we’ll be helping to make the property safer for the neighborhood. Young Life Capernaum Galaxy Gala Ages 16+ WestGate Church is going to transform our main auditorium into an intergalactic dance party venue to provide an out-of-this-world event for our friends at Young Life Capernaum, a local organization that serves young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We need folks to help decorate, serve food and drinks, face-paint, dress up and have a blast hanging out and dancing with our buddies from Young Life Capernaum. Main Street Home for Young Mothers Ages 18+ The Main Street Home exists to provide a home for young mothers (ages 16-21) who need a safe place to turn to during the first years of their child’s life. The guidance and support the girls receive helps them get their feet on the ground. We’ll be doing landscaping, fence repairs, creating a fun play area in the backyard for the kids, installing a new kitchen for the house mother and refreshing a kitchen in one the houses for the girls. We are hoping to hold a play date with the young moms in the new back yard on Sunday afternoon.

Heritage Home Ages 18+ Heritage Home is a facility run by CityTeam Ministries that provides longterm, compassionate ministry for homeless, poor, and abandoned women who are pregnant and have nowhere else to turn but the streets. This ministry is more than just shelter - it provides mentorship, job training, and holistic counseling to bring healing to the women it serves. This project will including building shelving, storage, and light construction, as well as landscaping - and the building of a play area for kids. We’ll also need folks who have an interest in connecting and forming mentoring relationships with these women to help them as the work to transition out of the home. Stand Up ForKids Ages 18+ StandUp For Kids is a nationally recognized non-profit charity that works directly with thousands of homeless youth across the country. We’ll be working at their San Jose location (near downtown) that offers homeless San Jose teens not only a meal, a warm shower, and laundry facilities, but also mentoring and a warm, caring community. We’ll be doing clean up and organization of multiple interior spaces, bathroom repairs. We’ll also build some new storage and organization areas, replace some old flooring and do some exterior clean up. Blewett Avenue Ages 18+ This property was identified by the city of San Jose as a home that needed help to make it more functional for a person who has mobility issues. We will be building two ramps, and repairing the existing handicap ramp. We’ll also be doing some other miscellaneous home repairs, including repairing stucco, doing some exterior house painting, some light electrical work, and other miscellaneous home repairs for a resident who simply can’t do this herself.

Downtown College Prep Ages 13+ Downtown College Prep is a public high school in San Jose whose mission is to prepare first-generation students, particularly low-income Latinos, for college success. The goal of this campus project is to work alongside the school to dramatically improve the school environment for the students attending. We’ll be painting classrooms, doing campus clean-up and general beautification, and other organizational projects. KidzServe - Beautiful Day 2018 for Kids Ages Kinder-5th Grade KidzServe is a great opportunity for elementary aged kids (K-5th) to serve at their own project. This project will allow the kids (and whole families!) to create and contribute to Beautiful Day in a meaningful way by creating gifts to be given to other Beautiful Day recipients. We’ll be decorating planter boxes, creating table centerpieces, making blankets, and writing notes of appreciation – all to be given to other Beautiful Day recipients. We also need volunteers (6th grade–adult) to help and assist the elementary aged kids. It’s never too early to teach kids how to serve in love. Beautiful Day Check-in Team Ages 18+ This is perfect for folks who have (for whatever reason) some physical limitations that might otherwise prevent them from serving. The Check-in Team arrives an hour early before the Beautiful Day projects get started to help volunteers checked in, help parents fill out their child’s waiver, and provide a warm and sunny Beautiful Day welcome to everyone who comes by. Beautiful Day Material Distribution + Clean-up Team Ages 18+ This team is perfect for volunteers who cannot serve on the Saturday or Sunday of Beautiful Day. There will be many shifts to choose from starting the week prior to Beautiful Day, during the event, and in the days following. Volunteers will organize tools and materials the week before Beautiful Day to prepare for pick-up and delivery to each project site OR help clean-up and receive of all items returned to the Saratoga campus after Beautiful Day is over.

Beautiful Day Celebration Dessert Ages 13+ What happens after Beautiful Day 2018 is over? We celebrate, of course. This project includes planning and organizing a celebration for Beautiful Day volunteers and recipients. The evening will include dessert, a slideshow, and testimonials from the weekend from volunteers and recipients. Pastoral Care and Prayer Team Ages 18+ Beautiful Day 2018 isn’t just about doing a lot of good projects (although we truly hope to accomplish that). It’s about something deeper: we do all this out of an overflow of love for God. As a member of the Prayer and Care Team, you’ll help to remind folks about the heart behind these projects. You’ll pray with the groups of volunteer before the work begins, serve alongside the volunteers, be the voice of calm and reason if there are any conflicts, and help remind folks why we’re all doing what we’re doing. FULL-Beautiful Day Paparazzi Ages 18+ Handy with a camera? Let your camera skills shine on our Beautiful Day photographer team! As a part of this team you will essentially be capturing the essence of Beautiful Day Volunteers and projects. FULL-Creek Clean Up + Washington Elementary School All Ages Welcome WestGate Church is partnering with our friends at The River Church who are leading an effort to clean up the creeks in the San Jose area. In addition, they’ll be partnering with Washington Elementary School for a much needed beautification project, which will include cleaning classrooms, power washing the outside exterior to the buildings, and touching up murals at the school. This project is only for Saturday, April 28. All ages are welcome.
