UCPEA EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING Minutes – September 10, 2015 Attendees – Ken Best, Veronica Cook, Michele Hoff (by phone), Peter Morenus, Lisa Pane, Angela Rola, Gisele Russo, Kathy Sanner, and Kimeta Straker Guests – Lindsay Jenkelunas, Sean Shields, Chuck Morrell 1. Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by President Sanner at 12:07 pm 2. Acceptance of Minutes of September 3, 2015 - The motion to accept the minutes as corrected was made by Morenus and seconded by Best. Motion carried. One abstention. 3. Additions to Agenda 1. Membership Packets 2. Regional Campus Parking Issues 4. New & Future Business: 1. AFT & AFTCT Agency Fee Update There is an urgency to convert agency fee payers to members. The office received 4 more cards this week and Chuck is willing to talk to individual members if necessary. 5. Old Business: 1. Converting Agency Fee Payers to Full Dues Members See above 6. Reports: 1. President’s Report – There was a reminder that the AFL-CIO Convention will be held on October 29-30 at Foxwoods. A call will also go out to Area Reps for interest per bylaws. There was a motion made by Cook to pay for a full page ad for $100 for the Labor of Love Backpack Program which will allow them to feed 4 children. Seconded by Pane. Motion carried. Be reminded of the following: September 17 there will be no scheduled Executive Board meeting. September 24 we need all available members to show for a quorum since a few people will be absent. September 20 is the Mansfield Downtown Festival. October 1 the Board meeting will be held in the Student Union – room to be confirmed soon. October 1 is also the date of the training in Hartford for Union Leaders, please plan to attend. October 8 the Board meeting will be held in the AsACC Conference Room 2. Staff Reports 



Morrell – Need suggestions for reclassification panel members due to some unavailability.

3. Officers’ Reports 

Best – There was a Union Wire meeting yesterday that produced a lot of information and so there will be four pages next issue. A purchase of an upgrade for Adobe Acrobat 9 is needed. More information will be forthcoming. There was a new position posted on HR’s website in Communications but it is unclear if it is an UCPEA position or a UHP position, as it is listed as for UHP but location says Storrs. Some follow up will be needed.



Pane – Overview of cases



Rola – Overwhelmingly positive response to the recently advertised Career Services Workshop Series. Due to this demand and the request for streaming by regional campuses, the committee wants to request the purchase of a video camera so the events can be taped and uploaded to the website in the future. There was also a suggestion for us to look into streaming our own events in the future. Since there was a huge response from the Law School and School of Social Work, the committee is also asking if UCPEA could reach out to the Deans of the aforementioned schools asking them to allow employees to attend without having to use personal time.



7. Good and Welfare The President of Norwalk Federation of Teachers, Bruce Meillon passed away unexpectedly last week. This is a huge loss and he will certainly be missed. UCPEA will send condolences. 8. Adjournment – 1:06pm
