FREE PRESCHOOL in GENESEE COUNTY Head Start is available for families who earn below the federal poverty (for example, a family of 4 whose income is below 12,150) level and that have children that will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1st. Great Start is available for families that earn above the poverty level but no more than 250% (for example, a family of 4 earns more than 12,150 but less than 60,750 per year) and have a child that will be 4 years old before September 1st.

WELCOME Stephanie Kibby has accepted the position of parent educator! She has participated in the program for the last three years and has been a valuable volunteer. She will be getting her feet wet this spring and is going to take the plunge in the fall!! We are excited to have her on the team!!

Book Club Parent Café

Book Club Parent Café will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Tuesdays in the PAT playroom #104. Children will be able to play in the playroom while parents have a book discussion. Please be aware our choices may change based on our conversations during book club. We may have an additional copy of the book club books available to check out from the parent library.

Feel free to join even if you haven’t read the book, maybe you will want to read it following the discussion!

If you have borrowed books from the Parents As Teachers library, please return them before May 6th. You are welcome to give any materials to your parent educator to bring back to the Perry Center. BULDING DRILLS You may find yourself in the building while a drill is being conducted for fire safety, lock down procedures or a severe weather emergency. Please follow the instructions of the staff and model to the children the importance of listening quietly for instructions, staying calm and safe.

Baby Games and Infant Play--RSVP Tuesday, April 26th 9:30-10:30 a.m. PAT Playroom, #104 Come join us as we move and groove to a variety of gross motor activities. Studies support the importance of physical activity and active play in the overall development of young children. Muscle strengthening, improved coordination, learning concepts and turn taking are crucial to early childhood development. We will continue to accommodate your infant’s short attention span by responding to his cues. Please bring a blanket or towel for your baby to play on during song and exercise time. Older siblings are welcome to play in the playroom or join circle time. They are also welcome to participate in the activities if they wish. April Toddler Time is about Construction and Transportation The Toddlers will be using play hammers to have fun with golf tees in Styrofoam. Exploring how cars/trucks speed down a ramp. Getting hands messy in play dirt and learning about where vehicles go: in the air, on the road, and in the water. Have fun singing The Wheels On The Bus and pretending to be airplanes, trains and boats.

This month is all about Construction and Vehicles. We’ll focus on early math skills as we match cars with their garages, classify objects that belong in different rooms of a house, and sort vehicles by land, air, or water. We’ll get creative as we make our own city from recycled materials (feel free to bring in CLEAN food boxes, cans, paper tubes, etc.). We’ll shake the wiggles out and stretch our imaginations as we work on our listening skills during Red Light Green Light Freeze Dance and Vehicle Exercises in our Gross Motor Fun Clubs. ART CLASS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20TH 9:30-10:30 AM We will be repeating the art class for kids here at the Perry Center. This class will be a limited number of participants. Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 13th at 12 noon. I will contact you to let you know if you have been selected to participate or if you are on the waiting list. You can take the class a second time, be aware that the project is the same and first time participants will take priority.

 Table renters will be able to presale each other’s tables from 8:30-9:00 am.

Please be certain to be at your table

promptly by 9 am ready for the public.  You are required to bring your own change and bags, Parents As Teachers will not provide these items.

Renters are expected to act as their own security for items that you bring to sell. Parents As Teachers cannot be responsible if items or money are stolen from a renter.  You will be provided a 6 foot table to sell your items from. You must keep your items in the area assigned to you and not have items protruding out into the walkways where they may cause someone to trip or fall. You may also rent a 5 foot space for a rack that you provide. Your rack must fit into a five foot space.  There will be a large item area manned by a staff person. For a fee, you may place your items in this section and you are responsible for completing the tags upon drop off and retrieving your item or money at the end of the sale.  Children are discouraged from staying at the sale. If you must bring your children, they must be at your table. They may NOT wander the building or play on the gym equipment.  You are responsible for pricing and tagging your own items and arranging them in an attractive and orderly manner. This will help you sell your items. See the site www.Mom2MomList.com for more information and tips for selling.  Renters are expected to stay until 1 pm. At 1 pm you may start packing your things to go.  Please make sure any stray stickers are removed from the gym floor in your area.  No items on a recall list may be sold. They supply clothes, toys, and all types of baby items to new mothers with limited resources. FIELD TRIP TO FOR MAR NATURE CENTER FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH 10-11:30 AM Join us at For Mar nature center to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. The staff at the center will teach the kids about butterflies through stories and hands on activities. If you haven’t been to For Mar, you won’t be disappointed. They offer a wide variety of programs throughout the year that are inexpensive for kids.
