Spring 1 Carry on Romans As historians we will be looking at life of the Celts just before the Roman invasion. We will research how Britain got invaded and which Roman Emperors ruled throughout. We will record questions during our research in order to find the answers. We will be looking at what the Romans introduced to Britain.
In PSHE we will consider how we can be a good friend as well as discussing changes and feelings associated with that. We will also be thinking about the values of our school, especially responsibility and understanding our values for January and February.
As designers we will create our own mosaics, using Roman mosaics as inspiration. We will also research Roman shields in order to create our own. We will make our own machine using everyday materials to inspire our writing.
As writers we will be learning about explanatory texts and create our own. We will be reading a Roman story, discussing the features of story writing. We then will be writing our own stories, using the features we learned about. We will also look at Roman myths, focusing on Neptune and Minerva. As mathematicians we will be continuing to practise methods of all four calculation, including decimals. We will also be exploring problems solving and applying maths to a variety of different real life problems. We will be learning to measure perimeters of different shapes and making Roman bread when using measures – weight. We will continue to focus on times tables and on practising getting faster at recalling information.
.
In PE we will be focusing on dance and games (extending our ball skills to play net/ wall games) this half-term.
As scientists we will be learning about solids, liquids and gasses and their properties. We will carry out different investigations, for example which chocolate melts first – plain, milk, white and make scientific observations when looking at cakes which have been baked for different times.
