Choir Trip Proposal Proposed Dates: April 4th-8th 2018 Estimated number of student participants: 80-90. Students in Choraleers, Sugar & Spice, and Cecilian Choir will be eligible to sign up for the trip. Estimated number of chaperones: 15-20 Estimated cost per person: $650 (will vary slightly based on the number of participants, and almost $100 less than the trip we took in 2014). Students and parents will be asked to make a deposit in August and then allowed to make payments through the end of February. The trip will not be mandatory, and students will have the opportunity to raise a significant portion of the cost of the trip if they choose to participate in the fundraisers. Fundraisers (pending administrative approval): The majority of our fundraisers will directly benefit the students and help them earn money toward their trip as well as other yearly choir fees. We have several fundraisers we use each fundraisers include our annual Fireworks Tent, Window Washes, Cookie Dough Sales (phone orders, not door-to-door sales), Chili Supper, 5K, and T-Shirt Sales. Some students also worked hard to earn more than they needed this year through fundraising so they could get a head start on fundraising for a potential trip. We will also be proposing a new fundraising asking for local sponsors. There are many music programs in Missouri and throughout the midwest that have some kind of sponsorship program in order to help raise funds. Purpose of the trip: To expose students to arts, history, and culture from other regions of the country. Students will spend the majority of the trip visiting and learning about important historical monuments and museums, including sites such as the Alamo and the JFK Memorial and Museum. Students will also perform in an adjudicated festival and receive feedback from judges in Texas, where there are many exemplary high school choir programs. Trips also help with building community, recruitment and retention in student organizations. On our last choir trip to New Orleans in 2014 was well-liked by both students and parents, and many students made comments about how much they learned and also how they wouldn’t have been able to gain that knowledge or have the same experiences on their own. We are using the same tour company as we did last time since we had a very positive experience. Two of the primary benefits to using this company are the private night time hotel security, and the on-site tour manager that will be with us the entire time we are in Texas.
