Headteacher: Mr. P.Malcolm Founded 1895
Rayleigh Primary in the News. We were a little caught out by our media presentations for BBC radio and ITV Regional News. We had been told we would get a DVD of the filming and radio broadcasts we did to publicise our ‘Meet the Ancestors’ project. It was a surprise to hear it had been broadcast but I have managed to put the ITV clip on our Meet the Ancestors website. https://sites.google.com/rayleighprimary.org.uk/mta-en/our-ancestors I will try and upload the BBC Radio broadcast when I can transfer it into a suitable format. Do look at the genetic information on the page. (Sometimes it takes a second click to load.) Living DNA tell us they are constantly revising their website so there may be an odd glitch but the information is fascinating. We know that at the beginning of the 20 th century there were only a few families living in Rayleigh, so it isn’t surprising that we have such a rich genetic history. It just goes to show how we have all sought out the best for our families through hard work and seeking opportunities. Next our children will be learning why families moved over time and learning about key historical events to illustrate this. Term Times We promised at the end of last term to undertake a survey regarding the school holidays. Our survey allows you to think about the implications of shortening the summer holidays. Please respond to it to give us an idea of your preferences. It can be accessed via the following link. Reminders from the Office. The office would like to remind families that we e-mail and text as much as possible in our communication. As a result it is important to ensure the office has up to date contact details. A change of email provider or phone number can mean not receiving a newsletter or bulletin. Again should your address change, please notify the office immediately. The office report parents popping in at the start of the day to ask to talk to their child’s teacher. Although we try to be as available as we can, we ask parents to talk to teachers at the end of the day when they bring their child out. Longer appointments should be booked at the office so the teacher has time to prepare. Finally, the office would like to remind everyone that we are a nut free school. There are many more children with anaphylaxis now adays and they can have violent seizures if exposed to nut products. Peanut butter is a key concern but this includes many chocolate spreads such as Nutella. Please ensure any sandwiches and snacks prepared at home are safe to bring to school. Attendance. If your child is absent please remember that you should notify the office via the absence line, on the first day of absence with a reason, and every subsequent day thereafter to keep us updated. If your child is absent from school due to sickness or diarrhoea, they must be kept at home for 48 hours from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea so as to stop the spread of infection to other children. Medical/dental appointments should be made out of school hours however, when this is not possible, appointment cards will be required in order to authorise the absence. Please remember to notify the school office in advance of an appointment, not just the class teacher. Finally, please be reminded that attendance and punctuality is continually monitored by the school and The Missing Education and Child Employment Service at Essex County Council. If your child’s attendance falls below 95% you will be notified by letter and if their attendance falls further, you will be called in for a meeting with the Headteacher to discuss options for improvement.

PE Kit. The office holds some spare PE Kit and plimsolls but not enough for every child. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit including plimsolls in school. For children in KS2 a pair of black trainers would also be a good idea for Spring Gardens. Some days are dry and warm but the grass will still be a tad muddy. PTA The PTA would like to thank everyone who contributed cakes for the Macmillan coffee morning, £155 was raised. Flyers will soon be going out to book the London Christmas Shopping trip on Saturday 25th November, so please save the date. The next PTA meeting in on Friday 6th October at 1.30pm in the Teaching room. All are welcome and hopefully there will be some new faces there! Tea and biscuits will be provided.
