SCHEDULE August 10-17, 2017
A GUIDE TO THE FIRST WEEK OF YOUR NEW CYCLONE STORY
International Students and Scholars Office 3241 Memorial Union 2229 Lincoln Way Ames, IA 50014 Phone: (515) 294-1120 Web: www.isso.iastate.edu
English Placement Test WHAT IS IT? This test is designed to help you take the right English course your first semester at ISU. Being appropriately placed in your English course helps you succeed! This is not the TOEFL and does not replace the TOEFL.
WELCOME to WELCOME! Orientation exists to help new students (like you!) prepare for their time at Iowa State University. We’ll cover as much as we can across a wide range of topics to help you succeed at ISU. Please do not hesitate to ask questions at any time during Orientation. ISSO is here to help. A note about punctuality: Please arrive on or before the listed times of each event and plan to stay until the end. It is essential that you are on time to events and meetings. In the U.S., late arrivals are considered very impolite. If an event is called a “drop in event,” you may arrive at any time during the event.
Location: Gerdin 1148 When: Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Exchange students do not have to take the EPT unless they will enroll in advanced English classes. Visit https://apling.engl.iastate.edu/english-placement-test/ for more information.
ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment WHAT IS IT? All new undergraduate students must complete the ALEKS Placement assessment before their advising appointment to determine which Mathematics course they should take. This test is Internet-based and adaptive. Please allow one to two hours to complete. You may take this test in an ISU computer lab or at any computer with reliable Internet access by going to: www.math.iastate.edu/academics/undergraduate/aleks/
Tuition Payments Tuition payments can be made all at once or in monthly increments. You can pay with an American bank account or even with an international bank account! Visit AccessPlus at accessplus.iastate.edu to make your payment online. Your U-Bill must be paid on time to avoid additional charges. Please contact Accounts Receivable for clarification on when your bill is due at (515) 294-7388 :

U ST 110 - International First-Year Experience Seminar
2
This course provides timely information and support for new international undergraduate students in their first semester at ISU. U ST 110 is required for all new international undergraduates. When meeting with your academic adviser, please ask them to help you register for U ST 110 Section A, B or C along with a Recitation (your adviser will know what that is) Sections 1-27 for Fall 2017. 3
