The application process is as follows for the following loans: 1) Direct Unsubsidized: complete the summer aid application, but only if you have any Direct Unsubsidized loan eligibility remaining in 2016-17. This loan has a $20,500 annual limit, so you may have used it all. 2) Direct PLUS loan: If you exhausted the above loan eligibility for 2016-17, then visit studentloans.gov to apply for a Direct PLUS loan. On your PLUS loan application, indicate a loan period of May 2017 to July 2017 and the award year 2016-17.

Financial FAQs: Summer 2017 How can I return excess loan refund money from spring semester?
7
We can come up with the best plan for you, just email me before the end of the semester. This could save you loan origination fees (1%-4% of the loan amount) as well as interest charges (annually 5.31% for the Unsubsidized Loan or 6.31% for the PLUS loan in 2016-17).
How do I apply for federal work-study funds for summer?
8
Complete the summer aid application and make sure you have the appropriate FAFSA on file. If you are not enrolling in summer coursework, you will need to complete the 2017-18 FAFSA. Receiving federal workstudy funds can impact your federal loan eligibility for next fall and spring semesters if you do not take summer coursework. If you are taking summer coursework, then you will need a 2016-17 FAFSA on file and your summer work-study award will not impact eligibility for the upcoming fall and spring terms.
