The Granite State College (GSC) School of Education has developed vertically aligned pivotal standards for each strand of coursework offered in General-Special Education; Mathematics; Early Childhood; Reading/Writing Teacher; and Advanced Endorsements. Pivotal standards (PSs) represent capacities that are fundamental to effective educator practice. As such, each teacher candidate must demonstrate proficiency in all pivotal standards within a course before receiving a grade ~ and for all courses in their program in order to receive a degree or certification at the completion of their program of studies. The teacher candidate will:

(1) Apply Understanding by Design (UBD) to plan, develop and teach mathematics unit plans to enable all students to construct new concepts through active participation in mathematical modeling, investigations and problem-solving while improving mathematical habits of mind. (2) Integrate web based technology into their unit plan(s) (3) Analyze data from a variety of assessments to improve student learning.
