The day started off with officials setting up the course after uncertainty of the previous day that the event was to run. Unfortunately the extraordinarily wet winter with heavy rains had caused some damage to the road necessitating major drainage repairs. The course repairs were completed thanks to the efforts of the Burnie city council. The racing started just after 10am. All drivers made a tentative first run to get a feel for the course which was very dusty. The event went well with only one spinout reported resulting with a minor delay as the car was put back on the road. A total of 6 runs for the day were achieved, with the last run commencing at around 2 and finished ¾ hour later. Outright winner for the day was Stephen Mott in the Renault powered Quoll in class “F”. A mechanical failure in the 5th run prevented him setting a competitive time in that run and was unable to compete in the 6th run. However the time in run 4 was still a full second better than any other competitor on the day. Outright runner ups were Rod Bender in the Golf type R and closely followed by Phil House in “Helga” (BMW) who was also the class “C” winner. Driver of the day and class “E” winner, Bradley Mathews, managed to put his ‘82 Ford Fairmont into a very creditable 5th place, 100th of a second behind 4th placed Igor Van Gerwin in the Toyota Celica. Other Class winners were David Young in the Porche (class ”D”), Leigh Ford in the Honda Integra (class “B”) and Roger Carter in the Nissan Pulsar (class ”A”) Best Presented car went to Barry Stanley in the V8 Torana. With the help of officials, spectators and competitors all the track gear was packed up and then the awards presented. Thanks go to all those that sponsored, organised, helped setup, run and pack up all the gear at the end to make another successful event.
