BRIEF HAPPENINGS COLLEGE DECISION DAY

GRADUATION GETS REAL

AP TESTING

On May 1st, the Counseling Department hosted a celebration in honor of College Decision Day– the deadline for students to submit their intent to attend the college or university of their choice. Congratulations to all #Accepted/#Enlisted, Tillers!

This week marked multiple milestones for our graduating class of 2018, including Cap and Gown distribution! On Thursday afternoon, Seniors picked up their orders in the Pavilion– just one short month before Graduation Day!

It’s that time of the year again! Hundreds of AP students will be taking their AP Examinations over the next two weeks. This exam is the culmination of a year’s worth of college level work in a high school setting. Best of luck, Tillers!

FEATURED ARTICLES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR IN WORLD LANGUAGES! By Christie Alva, World Languages Department Instructional Coach

I

t's incredible to think that a school year will soon end and many of us will be off to enjoy a much deserving summer break. The World Languages Department began this school year with 3 new teachers on staff: Astrid Anticona, Karen Bunnell, and Deisy Castañeda. These teachers have been a wonderful addition to our already colorful group. Bringing with them diverse backgrounds, knowledge and individual, unique styles of teaching, our students were able to learn rigorous lessons in fun and engaging environments. As the World Languages Department Instructional Coach this year, I am fortunate to work alongside a supportive team. They are a happy addition!

T

he Tustin High School Instrumental Music Program is hosting their 9th annual Cabaret Concert on Friday, May 11th in the Tustin High School Plaza at 7:00pm; we will be starting to serve food at 6:30pm. Food will be able to be purchased at the event, but you can get a better price with the pre-sale. If you would like to purchase tickets, see any Jazz Band student or Mr. Fisk in room 603. Come out and support the Tustin High School Jazz Band and see all the hard work they put in to make this concert possible.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK! By Melissa Trout, Girls’ Athletics Director

A

s their final weeks of high school come to a close, it is easy for seniors to get nostalgic. All of the tiny things they do daily become monumental when they realize, “This is the last time I’ll take an AP test, eat in the cafeteria, dance with my friends at Prom”, etc. For senior athlete, Citlalli Vergara, she is about to experience one of “those moments” when she participates in her last track finals. Citlalli is no stranger to CIF- she has been there as both a volleyball player and track athlete. However, because this is her last high school athletic experience, I am sure this last meet will truly be bitter sweet. And though this extraordinary athlete may get sad the last time she takes off those track spikes, she can be confident that many new adventures wait her at UC Berkeley. By Tom Giebe, Boys’ Athletics Director ur Tiller Boys’ Athlete of the Week is swimmer Kevin O’Toole. Kevin, a senior, will lead the Tiller swim team into competition this week at the Empire League Prelims and Finals, held this Wednesday and Friday at Kennedy High School. Kevin will be competing in multiple events on Wednesday with the hope of advancing to Friday, and eventually, to CIF. Kevin excels not just in the pool, but also in the classroom. He has compiled a 4.33 overall GPA and has committed to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara. Good luck this week, and GO TILLERS!
