Executive Committee Report

Alignment of ICIMC strategic plan with the Great Start Collaborative Strategic Plan- Looked for areas where ICIMC is aligned. Wendy Boyce outlined the Great Start Plan and passed out copies. She outlined the System Scan and the collected data was analyzed and certain themes emerged. The results were prioritized and root causes were discussed and activities were created. Two areas emerged as strong alignment with ICIMC and Great Start Collaborative plan“Voice” and “Gaps”. Also, alignment with “Address cultural and racial barriers.” Update Coalition Member List- Remove and delete names, add any other names, and email any new names to the cochairs. Executive Committee- The Executive Committee will be Regina Traylor-co chair, Mary Machowicz- co chair, Sandy Gellar-Treasurer, and Laura Zdybel- Secretary. This committee will meet periodically and report out.

give feedback. No discussion. Work groups can now begin to use the ICIMC work plan. Work Groups Reports: Education and Event Planning Work Group: Lisa Chambers, Sandy Gellar, Wendy Boyce, and Laura Zdybel  Four activities identified. Need a key message and work with marketing  Annual Education Event will be held in SeptemberInfant Mortality Month  Set two objectives  Question regarding- “Can the ICIMC receive contributions and donations without being a 401 © 3?” Regina Traylor will look into this question.  Some activities outlined are tied into other organizations and the funding could be combined. Could there be a fiduciary at the ICHD or the Ingham ISD? Regina Traylor will look in this question.  Logo and branding discussion. Marketing team will work on both and report back.  Add a Father’s type event  Focus on business involvement  Discussion about if the ICIMC need to approve the work plans of the work groups Social Media Work Group: Jonathon Lawrence, Hillary Pamperin, Shannon Nobles and Mary Machowicz  Facebook page is live and ready. Need pictures and articles and links to other articles  Need to update the About Section  Check out the page and give feedback to Jonathan Lawrence  Colors are yellow and red and pictures are appealing.  Hillary Pamperin talked about the Centering Pregnancy Program. There is one in Battle Creek and Flint but none in the Lansing area. There may be March of Dimes grant money to support this. Marketing Work Group: Kathy Esselman and Regina



Traylor  No report at this time Healthy Start & NFP program update Nurse Family Partnership Update:  Four home visiting nurses at this time. 75% capacity. 25 on each caseload. Strong retention rate of 95%, Breastfeeding initiation rate is at 78% and the 6 month mark could improve.



Round Table – Invite you to share the work you are currently doing or have in mind to help reduce the infant mortality rate and health disparities in Ingham County.

Healthy Start Update:  Overall Project Model- identified 5 key areas. Isa Solis passed out newsletter, welcome packet with flyer, and Intake Record. Delineated roles and who the population is: High Risk African American familiesserve 500 women in 12 month timeline (250 prenatal and 250 post partum). Also, 200 men for family resiliency support.  Discussion about receiving referrals from local hospitals and local health care providers.  ICIMC needs to pass along the word and information about Strong Start Healthy Start. ICIMC will be ambassadors for SSHS.  Connection with MI-APP- Michigan Adolescent Pregnant and Parenting Teens.  Funds were available November. Timeline has been tight and very successful thus far. Round Table:  Shannon Nobles- Michigan League for Public Policy: Focus on strengthening families through quality and affordable childcare and preschool and prevent child abuse and neglect. KIDS COUNT data is available. Two generations report data.  Sandy Gellar- MSU: Approach Mayor of Lansing regarding the work of ICIMC  Mary Machowicz- EPO: Baby Café has been very successful and yearlong data will be submitted. 116 moms enrolled and over 600 total attendance in 2014.

 

Laura Zdybel- EPO: Spoke at Lansing Kiwanis Club and encouraged business people to take an interest in the ICIMC Sarah Scranton- Tomorrow’s Child: Posters are available and are now smaller in size and can be ordered online and in different languages. tomorrowschildmi.org Hillary Pamperin- McLaren: New partners with La Leche League with meetings on the first Monday. Shared “Labor of Love”, Indiana’s Infant Mortality Initiative. Regina Traylor offered to disseminate materials passed out at today’s meeting to Sarah Scranton and Hillary Pamperin.
